Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2

Announced Jul 19, 2006 •
10 megapixels | 2.8 screen | 28 – 112 mm (4×)

90% of my shots are in daylight and screen is impossible to see, especially when you have sun over your shoulder as is preferred. Quality drops as zoom increases and noise gets bad above iso200. Close up shots are good with iso100 and no zoom. Detail in landscape shots is poor. My olympus 540d cheapy takes better quality shots. Lx3 appears to have solved lens quality - but prefer 30-75mm lens. Camera needs some form of eyepiece for daytime and needs 2/3" senser with say 14mgpxls square cm. ...

The LX2 is in some ways a unique camera. Its panoramic format and 28mm equivalent lens gives a lot of opportunity to be creative with high impact landscapes and its very useful for getting in those extra wide pictures. It also has quite a few tricky elements to it, and some drawbacks, so it’s a balancing act. I wouldn’t recommend it as a leave-on-auto point-and-shoot camera. Build quality and lens is very good with the extremely useful 16X9 feature. Image quality is not very good, at 100% (10M) you can clearly see noise, speckles, blurring. In short, I think the results from this camera are worse than from the LX1...even when sized down, the Venus III NR is a disaster. Glad I held off on selling my LX1 before getting this one.

Well, the video-mode is a rip-off. The quality is below something sane, it seems that's with *intention* from panasonic to sell they 'video-cam's, and when that's really the case, what is likely, since they also disabled zooming while taking videos, it's really an unbelievable rip-off. They should a least note that rip-off on the specification, that you can't hardly use the video-mode, that would be somethng like fair, but like that, it's extremely ugly. Have a look at the borders of e.g the ...
