Nikon AF-S Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR

Announced Mar 5, 2013 •
Telephoto zoom lens | Nikon F (FX) | 2208

The new 80 - 400  by Nikon with the N coating.  It's optics are superb but it has very poor seals, dust and dirt get into the lens.  The rubber grips around the lens for the zoom and focus stretch and come lose,   A very good lens poorly made.

I got now this lens since one week and I am really excited on how good the lens is, even at its widest aperture. It has a very solid build and obviously the VR is extremely effective. I tested the lens in dull light @400mm 1/20th and I got very nice and sharp images. AF is very reliable and dead on, at least on my copy. A really nice lens, when comparing with the Canon 100-400 or the Sony 70-400G II I previously owned. Of course it is not F/2.8, so if you would like to get more out-of-focus ...

Nice lens not to heavy, works well with the D750 sharp at all lengths overall very good but expensively overpriced.

I purchased this lens with the discounts offered when I purchased the D810. This lens has quite a specific purpose for me in shooting hunting dog field trials. It has the reach I need when staying out of gun range, and range enough that I can shoot portraits on the short end. The lens will replace my Sigma 150-500, which is heavier and does not have the short end. In personal testing I find this lens superior to the Sigma in every way. Using the D810 I can resolve a dormant winter maple tree ...

Took these shots today using D7100 tripod mounted with the 80-400 vr2 and a sb 700 off camera with umbrella. this lens is very sharp. I am no pro but enjoy taking set up photos of my little one :) also use the lens a lot for nature out door shots of birds.

I picked up this lens on March 23rd and have shot it every day since. I have absolutely no complaints or regrets with this lens. Super sharp, amazing detail, great contrast and color, fast AF, solid construction, and excellent VR. I can hand hold this at 400mm all day long and come home with more keepers than ever before. I shot the famed 70-200 f/2.8 with 2xTC for some time before buying the 80-400. The new 80-400 tops the previously mentioned combo in every way, and I can put a TC on top ...
