Hi, I am going to Africa later in the year and need help deciding which lenses to take with. I don't want to change lenses while on safari. I will be in Sabi Sands for 4 nights, Chobe in Botswana for 2 nights and 2 nights at Victoria Falls. I am more interested in the big 5 over birds. I currently have only one body the D5100, but possibly could borrow a D40. Please provide suggestions for one body only and for 2 bodies in case I can get the 2nd body. The lenses I have are: Tamron 18-270...

Hi, I've decided to loose some weight (being over 40 sucks;-)) and a nice way to do it is by cycling. I leave in 10-15 minutes distance of a nice woods that is often called "Lisbon's lung" as it is its biggest green area. It's also home of several birds, plants, flowers, etc. Many things to take nice pictures. I've decided that I'll get only the D5300 with the 70-300 and the micro 105 just in case. A flash only if I'm able to squeeze it in (my i40 is quite small and has its own (lightly)...

I recently purcashed this lens on ebay in a 'working' condition. From the moment I put the lens on the camera I thought that the focus isn't working right. Especially at 300mm the focus is definitely blurred with coma. My previous version of this lens has been patched back together (thus the need of a replacement) but still manages a much sharper image at the same settings. I've posted two comparison images of the lenses on my Flickr account....

I am an absolutely new comer to the world of dSLR photography. I have recently joined a bird watching group and have made a few trips with successfully (to the extent permissible) taken birds and nature photographs with my existing point-and-shoot camera. But now I have started realising its limitations and therefore I have recently decided to have a Nikon d5200 which suits my budget. The camera comes as usual with a 18-55 kit lens. The experienced members of the group come with awe raising...

Hi, I just recently bought my first Nikon gear and today it seemed that focus broke on my 70-300 lens. I bought it used a couple of months ago, it seemed to be in very good condition. If I moved the manual focus ring, the meter in the window only moved between closest up to 7,5ft, it was more or less the same when using AF mounted on my D700 body. However now this evening after trying moving the focus ring back and forth without any success, I then again mounted it on the body again moving...

Hi, I have a D600 and carried out some test shots to check the sharpness of the 70-300mm VR lens over the 28-300mm. What puzzled me is the disparity over the range at 300mm? Is this a fault in one of the lenses or is it a known phenomenon? Nikon D600 - Nikon AF-S 28-300mm f/5.6 - 300mm  Nikon D600 - Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/5.6 - 300mm

I purchased the D750 with the 24-120 kit lens (after using a D90 with 18-200 lens for 9 years) and have found that I don't always have enough reach for zooming in to take pictures of birds or things in the distance.  I am traveling to South America at the end of the month and want to by an additional lens for this purpose.  We will be in the Galapagos (which is where I think I would want the extra reach), as well as Machu Picchu, Peru, Igauacu Falls, Buenos Aires, and Rio de Janeiro.  I was...

With my Nikon D5500, I have the following lenses available: AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G ED VRII AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm F4-5.6 G ED VR DX AF-S Nikkor 18-140mm F3.5-5.6 G ED VRII DX AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 GII VRII DX (kit lens) AF-S Nikkor 50mm F1.8 G AF-S Nikkor 35mm F1.8 G I mostly do photography around my school for the yearbook (sports, candids, portraits, etc.). I'd assume I should keep one prime (35mm and keep the 50mm for portraits) and the 18-140mm. Is there any reason why I...

Apologies for the clickbaity title! First post, bit of a doozy of a question. Been looking at upgrading from my 70-300 VR zoom for ages, and just cannot decide on what to buy and hoping for some input. Currently I've narrowed it down to the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR I or the Nikon 70-200 f/4. I would prefer the Nikon over the Sigma/Tamron as whilst they're good, frankly I just want the lenses to work reliably on my nikon bodies. I also have a Nikon 50-300 I never use but bought extremely...
