Leica M9

Announced Sep 9, 2009 •
18 megapixels | 2.5 screen | Full frame sensor

So far I have used four M9 cameras, my original one and three loan cameras, and all have been faulty. My original M9 was returned to Germany for repairs but returned after 8 months with even more problems. After even more months of being messed around I ended up with a camera that never worked reliably. It was returned to Germany for further work (the UK technician recognising and agreeing that it was indeed faulty) but after another three months it was returned from Germany with the comment ...

best camera I have used, perhaps because I <3 RF photography & find CCD capture light in a fashion that pleases me be aware that I am a tweaker & control freak ...CCD do less in camera processing than CMOS cameras which I view as a major advantage I had one of the first M9's available in the US & other than having its sensor replaced (with a gratis CLA from Leica NJ & a replacement skin) it has proved VERY dependable, though it can get upset with low battery juice I find ISO < 640 optimal & ...

Found the problem with sensor. After some fighting w/Leica I got the answer that sensor is not a part of Leica production and they can repair without warranty on quality. Problems: At night shots, problems comes..

(in response to this review ) The M9 continues to be an impressive camera 7 years after its release. I've never had a single problem with the several bodies I've owned. And its unique Kodak-developed CCD sensor is exquisite. —Peter. www.Prosophos.com "Growing Up" "Not-So-Wicked" "Cover Girl" "Swing" "A Pivotal Moment" "The Prince of Snow" "The Man" "Nocturnal Delights" "First Day of School" "Sisters" "I See Stars" "The Beautiful Game, Revisited" "Ghost Train, Revisited" "The Chase" "Face ...

I love taking pictures with the M9. It is louder than the M but never mind. Forget the JPEGS, just enjoy the gorgeous DNGs that come out of this little jewel. Currently, my M9 is with Leica for sensor replacement due to sensor corrosion for the second time. This should not happen with such a high priced camera. At least Leica is replacing them a no cost. But it takes ages. Be aware to check, when you buy an M9 second hand.

I have bought the Camera and it was not used very often. It was stored in optimum condition with all my other Canon, Nikon and Sony professional cameras. The CCD of the camera developed spots/oxidation on it and the shutter jams. My brother bought one at the same time and he uses it regularly, his M9 had the same shutter jam problem and the CCD on his camera also developed spots. He sent it to repair and waited 8 months for it to be returned repaired, and with in the first month that it was ...

Superb build quality, very nice IQ at low iso. Problems: LCD, slow processor, high iso noise, color shift with wide lenses.

Creo que es la cámara perfecta para disfrutar de la fotografía. Para mi es perfecta. Problems: La limpieza del sensor y sin ninguna duda el elevado precio de todo lo que la rodea.

I love this baby. The genuine article, save for: - ON/OFF switch terribly sensitive, I hate how it flicks to self-timer easily. - Buffer overload is one thing but even worse is trying to chimp (review pix) while buffering, or push PLAY before the camera booted up: it may fry the card, makes it unreadable! Happened twice, once real bad: I had to have a superdooper pro SD card with one-off event shots rescued in Lexar headquarters (kudos to Lexar for customer service) because no rescue software ...
