ZTE Grand Memo II combines 13MP BSI sensor with F2.2 aperture
Chinese manufacturer ZTE has introduced its Grand Memo II phablet which follows on the original Grand Memo which was launched at last year's Mobile World Congress. The size of the new device's IPS display has been increased to 6 inches and while the 720p resolutions remains the same, pretty much all other components have been upgraded.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor teams up with 2GB of RAM to power the Android 4.4 OS and ZTE's MiFavor 2.3 UI. The camera uses the same 13MP Sony BSI CMOS sensor that we have seen on a few new devices at MWC 2014 and combines it with a fast F2.2 aperture. For selfie-shooters and video-callers the front camera boasts a 5MP sensor and an F2.2 aperture as well. ZTE claims the 3200mAh battery, in combination with its battery-saving technology, allows for several days of normal use.
And the Grand Memo II looks the part, too. It features a more angular design than the original Grand Memo and is only 7.2mm thin. 80% of its IPS display, which offers a viewing angle of 178 degrees, is covered by scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3, making for very thin bezels. The back cover has been textured to allow for a pleasant feel in your hands.
We have no information on pricing yet but given the decent camera and all the around specs, the Grand Memo II could be worth a look for mobile photographers who like a large screen and can live with the relatively low 720p resolution. The device will first launch in April in China, followed by Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.
