It's still a long way to go until Apple's usual iPhone launch month of September but it looks like iPhone photography fans will have a triple-camera setup to look forward to. A series of renders shared by @Onleaks in cooperation with digit.in shows alleged renders of a 2019 iPhone model with a Huawei Mate 20 Pro-style square camera setup, featuring three lenses.

Two of the lenses are vertically aligned, with the third lens offset to the right under the flash LED. It also looks like the phone's rear panel is made from glass.
Onleaks notes the device is still in its EVT phase (Engineering Validation Test), so some design details are subject to change as we near the launch. We also don't know what the function of the third camera will be, but with Huawei, LG and Samsung now all offering triple-camera smartphones with super-wide-angle and tele options, it's likely Apple will want to go down the same route.
It's still early in the year for new iPhone renders but @Onleaks has an excellent track record and is widely regarded a credible source, so there is a good chance one of the 2019 iPhones will look very similar to the renders. Given the latter are showing a triple-camera setup, were are likely looking at a top-end model here.
It's painful to spend the extra $$$ on an iPhone but I'd rather do that than buy a cheaper Android that ends up causing headaches down the road when a) it's no longer supported by the carrier after only a couple years, b) apps stop working on whatever obscure version of Android is installed, 3) the carrier's custom UI becomes overbearing, 4) I get sick of the preinstalled bloatware that can't be removed (looking at you, Samsung), 5) malware gets installed because Google doesn't properly screen apps in the app-store, etc.
they couldn't get any more innovative by taking things off a phone so they went back to adding and copying android phones, remember they added wireless charging, that was a future wow for iphone users. lmfao.
Someone on another site had a funny comment...they said if true, then Apple should just put in one larger sensor for the camera and call it a mirrorless! (and yes I realize that all smartphone cameras are indeed "mirrorless").
hahaha! nice they copied lg v40 vivo etc with 3 lenses, hey at least they added more tech than removing it, touch finger print sensor, audio jack, a piece of screen off and a tiny rebate to get an iphone. lmfao! congrats apple. I cant wait to hear all the wows.
The X is also hideous; when the design first leaked I had the same reaction to it as I do to the design in this article. And I never got used to it; the 8 is the last tolerable iPhone design imo.
Such an obvious fake, why is this even being featured? This is far less substantial than anything coming out of the camera rumor sites which DPreview has a policy against featuring.
Indeed, this render looks terrible. I doubt Apple would be caught dead with such a messy setup. The rumor if not the render is likely true though, which is just common sense.
I hope they do something innovative with the telephoto, like a sweep panorama mode which generates a higher-resolution or lower noise photo at a “normal” field of view. That would be great for landscapes.
I just got an 8 64GB, and I feel it can last 2-3 years, easily. My 6s lasted three years, and it was frustrating in the end, since storage space was driving me nuts (16GB), but now with 64, I can't seem to go over 50%, even shooting photos and videos on a regular basis. I switched off apps offload when storage is low, which was the most frustrating part when you are in the middle of a street and need an uber, and the app got offloaded, and the data is so slow that takes hours to download, and no wifi around. Aghhh!!!
This cant be the final design. I think someone asssumes that because the 2 lens design protrudes like it does that Apple will just turn that rectangle into a square but I don't think they will go with that as its just too obtrusive. My guess is that Apple puts the lenses behind the back glass panel like Samsung is planning to do.
Designer at Apple HQ never make that ugly render, just a fan product. Can't not be more uglier ! If it is real, it would be no supprise that Apple capital goes below 300bils
Can we expect top spec models to surpass $3K in Australia? Currently 1TB XS Max costs $2.6K. And they wonder why sales are tanking and then turn around and have the gall to say it’s becuase of their cheap battery replacement program and slowing in China.
Apple has outpriced themselves that’s why they lost like $452 billion in a few months on market value. Finally Apples “greed” is the company’s Achilles heal. This new phone looks tremendously ugly. #MakeAppleGreatAgain
No, they've lost value because: - incompetent analysts who don't realize that Apple is becoming a services business. - worthy, far lower priced competition in China, which was to be expected. It's amazing that ordinary people in China bought any iPhones because of how expensive they were compared to their income. - because the market is reacting to Apple's announcement that they're no longer going to report unit sales to the Street. - The phones are a bit overpriced, but they always were. The difference now is that U.S. carriers no longer subsidize phones. - the maturity of the market and the fact that improvements each year are incremental. Anecdotal, but I'm still using an iPhone 6.
But having said that, let's not forget that in their 2018 fiscal, Apple sold almost 218 million phones. And 25% below that number would still be incredible. Let's not also forget that Apple's net earnings are larger than their gross revenue from 2009. That's also incredible.
I have a question. How can you lose something that you don't already have?
These numbers are just projections so they didn't lose anything. They just aren't currently scheduled to meet the projections that were made by analysts at this time.
But this would not be the first time Apple has missed financial projections and had their market value decrease only to reverse and increase shortly after.
If the camera doesn't matter to you, then the differences between the high-end phones becomes almost none. Pick any one. Even any high-end phone from the past 3 years.
I'll probably upgrade my iPhone 7 next year, but the lens notches keep getting bigger which makes the phone more ugly and more uncomfortable to have in your pocket. To be honest, I only use the iPhone camera for snaps when I'm out and about, but for 90% of people their phone is their only camera so the iPhone camera upgrade is probably are more important for them than it is for me as I own a far better camera for doing serious photography.
And the apple 'market response test leak' reaches DPR...
I have no proof and I doubt its true, but I'd laugh if it was. Phones, boring, cameras, interesting, lenses, interesting. Maybe if all they have to talk about are phones, DPR could start working their way back through all the old reviews that never got finished so those on the s/h market have more info to go on. Believe it or not I originally found and live this site for the informative reviews!
Because the camera modules are one the most expensive components in the phone. I’m sure we’ll see more and more modules in the future, but prices have to to come down a bit.
I'm also sure the next iPhone will likely be somewhere in the price range of $1200-$1400 (USD) too... For the bulk of what people do with phones (take instagram pictures) the standard two or three camera phone is more than sufficient, especially since IG and other sites impose size limits on photos, so these high-res images have to be scaled down anyway. I will say that 4 cameras may offer a bump in photographic options, but at what price?
People fretting over a minuscule camera bump that would have no consequence in real life. “And thus the world ended, not with a bang but with a whimper”....
Lol people freaking out at this design. I would be SHOCKED if apple would let this design go to market with such a gigantic camera bump. No way Ive would let this through. We're still, what, NINE months away from an official release. Plenty of time to smooth that down.
