Pricing for the Polaroid-branded Socialmatic camera is officially set at $299 and pre-orders will be "available soon," according to the Socialmatic LLC Facebook page. This Android-powered camera features a 14-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel rear camera along with a 4.3-inch touchscreen interface. In addition to GPS, the Socialmatic is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity to share images with access to Facebook, Twitter and Socialmatic's own social network.  Specifications indicate that remote printing is available but the camera, like other Polaroid digital cameras, is equipped with a built-in zinc printer for instant prints. And, not surprisingly, the Socialmatic comes with a set of instant filters.

The packaging looks nice but what about the images and the prints? Will instant printing be worth $300?
Apparently you can let your subjects know your mood by changing the front LED mood icons.

The camera comes with 4GB of internal storage and will accommodate SDHC cards. We're not sure how the forward-facing LCD Mood Assistant A.I. works. Unless it has the dubious sensitivity of a mood ring or clairvoyant abilities, we suspect one must manually change the icon on the front panel to reflect the photographer's state of mind.

We're still waiting for the Polaroid-branded, interchangeable lens, Android-based camera that was announced at CES 2013 (we gave up on the Android-based camera Polaroid announced a year or two before then at CES). Will the Socialmatic ever materialize? It's slated for release in 2014 but we'll keep an eye out to see when pre-orders will commence but won't hold our collective breath.
