I own an Android tablet. It runs all the apps on the App store. There are very few apps that run less than optimal, most run better by offering extra features on tablets. Lightroom is one example but there are many.

Please list the source of your information as I have.

I don't think you are very well informed on the topic. You are perpetuating myths that might have been true in the early days, but certainly not anymore.

Actually, I think you are all wrong. It has nothing to do with Apple vs. Android marketshare. When developers convert their apps to run natively on M1 they allow their programs to run on ARM based processors. Thanks to Apple Catalyst, developers only need a minimal amount of work have their apps work both on macOS and iPadOS. I'm sure the only reason Capture One is supporting the iPad is because it's minimal work. They never supported iOS until M1 came out. Unless there is software that can easily port iPadOS apps to Android, I don't foresee Capture One spending development time creating an Android version as they are a small company compared to Adobe.

It would be great if PixelShift worked for the S1R, but tethering still would not. :)

Sony and Pentax PixelShift are not supported for sure.

@Class A these are VERY specific an small things that can be super easiliy worked around o.O
The functionality is WAY more powerfull than Lightroom (which also doesnt support any pixelshift?!). Its interface is COMPLETELY customizable (while lightroom and most others doesnt have ANY way to customize its interface). The interface can be put on multiple screens.
The tethered shooting options are more sophisticated.
The export speed is way faster.
It can not only export RAWs to any format, but also PSD files. Also it got a lot of batch processing.

Of course you are right, "most advanced" is open to interpretation. But so far I cant see one single RAW converter that comes even close to Caputer Ones power. Some tools are better for certain things - but none got that amount of possibilities in my opinion.... I may be wrong of course =)

Yes, most of these small things have workarounds but in combination these workarounds cost a lot of time over a week and are annoying each time you have to employ them.

How hard is it to provide a decent vignette tool, for instance? Not hard at all, but if you want anything that needs a bit more than the super basic tool provides, you have to create a layer, position a radial filter, and do all sorts of adjustments with a tool that was not designed for the simple "vignette" use case.

Most of these small issues would be quick to implement but could save thousands of users hundreds of hours.

Nicolas Det - Maybe you don't want to - Look at what is happening now with Android malware and ransomware now becoming a real problem to this OS, same with Windows.

Not saying I like Apple in all its glory and its app policies.
But having licensed developers work for your OS and have some grip on it seem to make security threats a lot lower with iOS and MacOS. That's worth a lot to me if you are running a company that depends on its computers to always work.

I have no problems with it if it keeps my devices more secure and less prone for ransomware. Just take a recent look at how companies have their troubles or even worse having to pay up to hundreds of thousands of dollars to 'free' their network as this stuff also infests on backups.

Its more than a serious thread it can ruin you, your company and its reputation.

What you are asking requires access to the system that could compromise the security of the operating system and potentially other issues.
I've spent time on the front lines of IT and it may sound snobby but alot of what I've had to do is give give people what they need, not what they want because what they want can compromise company security and their security.

Nicolas - Not really, but most probably according to your own definition you want to call it closed. As it suits your thinking over Apple best. While reality is that you have the choice to buy your apps from literally hundreds of thousands of developers that create apps for the Apple eco system.

After changing from Microsoft to Apple we (our company) literally saved many thousands of dollars on IT costs and find savings in system maintenance too far out-weight the extra cost for hardware, which in fact also lasts longer. This was one of the best business decisions we have made over the last few years.

I guess not. But then I have to ask, what you are on about. You say "Linux is open", yet there was at least one effort to create a Linux kernel module that only allows execution of signed binaries. It's not because it is open source itself, that the platform is open by definition, in a sense that it can run any software. These are two different things.

Of course, if you can install your own kernel, then you can bypass that check. You may be able to gain root and do that. But I wonder how much you can tighten down a Linux system if you really want to. I think it's probably possible. And it doesn't change anything about Linux being open-source.

They invested a lot of capacity in porting C1 to the new mac architecture. And now Ipad. It's a small company with limited resources. I hope they don't forget their windows users and improvement of their core application. Half of the one year upgrade circle is already over, and there where not a lot of new features, improvements and bug fixes.

Yep. I love capture one how to edit photos, make , layers, etc but I hate the speed and catalog system. I still use lightroom for quick jobs and if I want to do something more high end the I go to c1. If they did something about the catalogue I would be happy to switch

@ack231 & @ janbanan - I'm exactly the same. C1 can't do what are basic functions for me as a working photographer, and there seems to be no focus whatsoever on fixing it.

Back to Lightroom this year after a couple of years trying to make C1 work - is it perfect? No. Am I currently working perfectly comfortably in a catalog that has just shy of a million images? Yup. (And does it randomly throw away my metadata, including edits, and lose files when I try to move them, and all the rest of C1's awful nonsense? No, never). And that's kind of the end of it.

As you suggest, the issue is market positioning - the fact that C1 seems to be developing other aspects rather than sorting out basic app engineering. Maybe that makes commercial sense, but to my mind it scarcely merits the moniker 'Professional' ...

Lol. Why invest in real innovation when people are still willing to pay thousands for old fashioned wheeled vehicles? Even if they had working prototypes, they’d keep them under wraps until the current market drys up. 😁

MJW3 - You do know that you can easily calibrate your iPad?
I have done several times with x-rite calibration tools.
Just put your calibration tool on top of the screen start the calibration process, drink coffee and done.

And if Apple are going to integrate the calibration system as they now have done with Apple TV into the iPad it is going to be even more easy. Just hold your iPhone above the screen and its done in less than 30 seconds.

Another thing is that I think you are completely wrong over the fact that retouching can't be done with an iPad....

I have worked for several years with an Wacom Intuos and must say it is a very pleasant experience. Working directly on an iPad Pro would make the Intuos obsolete.

Personally I can't wait to start using Capture One on an iPad.
The only app really missing stil on iPad for me is Final Cut Pro.

I think Affinity have proven that a desktop application can be rewritten and redesigned to adapt to a tablet environment very well, if effort is put into it. We should not let Adobes failures disqualify all attempts to translate a desktop application to tablet format, should we? And Serif (Affinity) is probably not a very large corporation either?

So whoever told you that MacOS will be coming to iPad, or whatever site that claims so - stop waisting time on these bogus claims.

- Apple is foremost a stock-company, that happens to have some tech in their portfolio.

Even so, they make too much money at selling both iOS devices as OSX devices *to the same customers.*

They will never cut off that double-sale branch they are sitting on.
(Its 100% all about the money: Zero, zip, nada, nothing about helping the customers)

By all means, buy Apple products, they are good IMHO, but don't expect Apple to benefit the customers if they lose a single cent of sales on the initiative.

Apple have said they do not plan to merge Mac and iPad. I’m not convinced this stance precludes running running macOS on an iPad any more than it would iPad Apps running on a Mac*. We may or may not know more next week. IMHO, the sudden ubiquity of M1 makes Apple a scale company.

Not sure what you are talking about. Anyway, WWDC 2021 happened, and there was no meaningful OS update for M1 Ipad. When I visited Apple stores three times to get one, I had hoped some change was coming with M1 chip. I did not expect to see the entire Mac OS on Ipad Pro this year, but I did expect Mac OS vs Ipad OS will start to merge here and there. At least, I believed changes such as the proper folder management or proper external monitor support were overdue for Ipad Pro. Well, none of that happened this year. Basically, the 11GB of RAM on my 1TB M1 Ipad Pro won't be used for another year at least. I'm pretty sure Apple is planning something. Otherwise, they won't include 16GB of RAM when the OS pretty much caps everything at 5GB. But, the timing can be a bi*ch with Apple. By the time a proper OS update happens, M2 or M1X Ipad may already be out. So, I'm debating myself to return mine or not. And, I have to make the decision by Thursday.

@MrB. The 1TB and 2TB M1 iPadPros have 16GB RAM.
