All three Droids can be pre-ordered starting today, but you'll have to wait until August to get your hands on these new smartphones.

Today, Motorola introduced the Droid Ultra, Maxx and Mini smartphones. All three are equipped with a 10-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, as well as a couple of interesting photo-specific features. The first, Quick Capture, works by shaking the camera twice in quick succession (with a double twist of the wrist) to access the camera. Then, you can tap anywhere on the screen to activate the shutter and snap a picture.

The second photo-specifc feature is called Droid Zap, which allows users to share pictures by simply swiping up on an image. This only works, though, if the person you want to share the photos with is nearby (within 300 feet) and also has one of the new Droid smartphones. To grab the sent image, all the receiver has to do is swipe down on his or her Droid's screen. Each new Droid is equipped with NFC, which can be used to transfer data to/from compatible devices as well.

All three smartphones are similarly equipped, featuring improved performance (Motorola estimates 24% faster CPUs, 100% faster GPUS) and offer 2GB of RAM, double that of previous models. One can assume (or hope) that the performance boost will speed up any in-phone editing you want to do.

Notable differences include size, storage and battery life. The Maxx measures 71.2mm x 137.5mm x 8.5mm, weighs 167g , sports a 5-inch display, 32GB of storage and an impressive estimated battery life of 48 hours (more than enough time to capture plenty of photos, videos and do some editing, too).

The Ultra has a physical profile similar to the Maxx except it's thinner at 7.18mm and, at 137g, weighs less, which is not surprising given its slimness and estimated 28 hour battery life. It's available with 16GB of storage.

As expected, the Mini is the smallest of the three at 61.3mm x 121.25mm x 8.9mm. It weighs 130g and features a 4.3-inch display.

Pre-orders can be placed starting today; the Maxx ($300) and the Ultra ($200) are expected to ship on August 20, with the Mini ($100) shipping on August 29.  Pricing is with new, two-year Verizon Wireless agreements.
