We recently reviewed the Panasonic Lumix G85, and while it scored a Gold Award, eagle-eyed readers noticed a 'stickiness' in panning video clips when mechanical image stabilization was turned on. You can see an example in our video above.

Last week we reached out to Panasonic representatives regarding the issue, and today we received the following official statement:
“Less than a week ago, Panasonic became aware of some reports that the G85's image stabilization wasn't delivering the same level of smooth performance that the GX85 is while slow panning in video mode. Panasonic is working to solve the issue with a firmware update as soon as we can. Panasonic appreciates all the valuable feedback and always focuses on meeting or exceeding our customers' expectations.”
We're told the update should be available as soon as next week, which is very encouraging. I'd like to personally thank our readers for being so quick to notice the panning problem. It's because of you this issue was so rapidly addressed by Panasonic.
I have only 1 more wish for Panasonic and that is improving the auto-focus speed in video mode. If that's something we could expect to see on GH5 and some lower-end cameras that would make me a CRAZY+ fan. Right now I'm simply a crazy Panasonic fan, without "+" and capital letters...
Actually very many has. This is the reason why the firmware update is done. It is not like a Nikon D600 oil splittery or D750 AF sensor mispositioning....
No, it's not my issue, it's Panasonic's. Why would I want a camera that I can't take casual videos with unless I want constant noise? Do you think it is reasonable to have to break out the Rode mic every time I want to use the video function on a $1,000 camera?
I have to support DWM on this. The in-camera mic should not have this issue.
Overall the G85 is a great camera. Probably the only area for further development is audio. What it needs: headphone jack for monitoring audio, external mic jack that does not interfere with articulating screen, and no IBIS noise on in-camera mic. It seems to me that Panasonic took audio a bit casually here. I know this is not a high-end G5 but these are kind of basic. I bet they address these issues in the G8. In the meantime I'm buying a Rode VideoMicro, attaching it to my camera, and going out shooting.
Oh, the list is long for E-M5mkII: They should fix the faulty manual EVF/LCD switch: when it stands in EVF, it displays (plays) images on the LCD and not in the EVF which is set. Touch AF would be very helpful to have, but that seems like a HW issue to insert that afterwards according to what I have read. Finally lowest shutter time in A and what is really lacking is exposure compensation in M with Auto ISO. Same list goes for E-M1mkI. And the Panny G85 also lacks the lowest shutter time in A and exposure compensation in M with Auto ISO.
Any reason why DP review can't address the dust and debris on sensor issue with Panasonic on the LX-100 ? Seems to me that this issue was just brushed off. I personally have been turned off by Panasonic turning a blind eye to the obvious problem.
The GR/GR2 shares the same issue. It's a a collapsible lens issue. Why don't you express why you're really turned off? -Because it's simply a Panasonic.
It's amazing that a large electronics company can cause so much dislike, simply because they have no film history. Maybe they should buy Olympus, like Sony brought Minolta.
Why wont they show similar love to the growing crowd of voices asking for modern auto iso implementation standards on video in the panasonic line up? Come on guys!
