LG Display says its new Quad HD screen has four times the pixels of standard HD screens.

LG Display says it's developed the world's first "Quad HD" (2,560 x 1,440) display for smartphones.

The South Korean LCD panel manufacturer showed the screen today in a 5.5-inch phablet format that, at 1.21mm thin, it also claims is the world's slimmest. The screen offers an impressively high pixel density of 538ppi. The Quad HD, or QHD, technology offers four times more pixels than 1,280X720 HD displays.

The company says the new screen will make it possible to fully view the PC version of web pages without image distortion, and users will see sharper text and less distortion when zooming in.

We're excited to see what photographs might look like in Quad HD, but it seems we'll have to wait to see the screen in action on an upcoming handset as for now LG Display isn't saying when or in what phone we'll see the technology.
