Regardless of whether or not you suffer from Gear Acquisition Syndrome, more commonly referred to as GAS, you know what it feels like to have to wait for camera get to your doorstep. This holds even more true for pre-ordered camera gear and SkyVista Productions has created a cheeky video making fun of the struggle of waiting for new gear.
The three minute film, titled Letter, pt.II pokes fun at the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, a camera first announced back in April 2018 and is still being released on a limited schedule. It was shot in just two and a half hours according to SkyVista with 'the impetus behind this short [being] to test the audio capabilities of the BMPCC4K in a real-world movie shoot setting,' ironically enough.
True story. Camera manufactures prehype their latest offerings then the distribution houses take preorders without any feedback to the buyers as to when the order will be filled. So this puts the buyer in an awkward position of when they will receive the camera. Will it be 2 weeks, 2 months, 6 months.........????? Believe me the retail stores know when and how many cameras they will be getting as does the manufacturer. The fact that they don't know is a bunch of baloney. Why not be honest with their clients? I've had this argument many times with retailers.
She has the camera-----now her life can be fulfilled. Once, when I was much younger, I let myself get drawn into high expectations about an overpriced and under-performing new camcorder and format. But hopefully, never again. I've even been able to put off going into 4K video for several years, until just the right camera comes along. But I feel myself starting to weaken and may soon compromise for something less than one that fits my ideal in all ways. But I wouldn't be alone in having to settle for less.
Very nice and witty, but I am spoiled by AF performance of Sony cameras and I easily get annoyed by things being out of focus. Even in Hollywood films... Also, some scenes have some spastic movements. Seems like the camera used did not have IBIS (movement is good, but spastic movement can break immersion). Stabilization beyond that would not work however as it would make the dialog a little stale.
With all the hype about Greta Thunberg and global warming, the youngsters should learn to curb their consumerism now... No need to for the new camera, enjoy nature with your eyes... (PS: don't take this post too seriously ;-) )
I never ever pre-order from Adorama or B&H. People are lemmings and always go to the same place following each other. There are other stores that have much shorter line. When Nikon D800e came out I got it in one week. People waited 6 month at B&H.
3 out of 4 of those recognized in the credits share the same surname. If this is a family affair I salute them for their collective talent and industry.
I'm on week two after having ordered my first camera from mass-drop, knowing it won't ship until Feb 19th. I will soon have the lenses with no camera body.........
I hope you also bought a cleaning kit so you won't be so bored waiting for the body. I know, I went through the same thing. And the cleaning kit helps a little. Only thing is, after the third cleaning I just I be cleaning a spotlessly clean lenses.
Watch a subject of interest Hold the lens just in front of your best eye. Enclose the gap between eye socket and lens with your fingers and if necessary a piece of fabric such that no light escapes Close both eyes Now shortly blink with your best eye and simultaneously say 'click' * If the image imprinted in your brain is to dark, repeat the the previous step but with a slightly slower blink or with your eye openend a bit further (For overpexposure do the opposite) Once you get the hang of it, you can start maikng series by blinking in a repetitive manner**. Its great fun, believe me
*) Getting the sound synchronized with the duration of the blink requires some exercise **) Don't exagerate and slowly build up your exercise to avoid eye-lid fatique
I laughed, I cried, I experienced the whole range of human emotion. I still prefer the video of the "pro" showing how to change lenses with one hand, but it's hard to top a classic.
Agreed. And to that, why pre-order something that is mass produced and will be available in abundance? It's not like we're talking about a Nurse With Wound art edition that will be sold out before release date and never actually available except through pre-order.
I don't think that waiting for months on end really applies. (In the Marshmallow Test, it was around 15 minutes.) Also, she didn't have to wait and get two cameras. She still just got one. So I think there are some major differences.
She's lucky she was right there to see it delivered. Otherwise, DHL, FedEx, UPS, or USPS (United States Postal Service) would've left it in front of the house, in the pouring rain, unless signature was required. USPS and UPS (United Parcel Service; a USA courier), especially, are getting really bad.
in India, Indian post is quite trustworthy. if the person is not home then they leave note at home and package needs to be collected from Post office. Sadly they dont ship electronics and there have been few occasions when Blue dart and DHL both have left bitter taste in my mouth and really wished there was an option for Indian post as they certainly do a better job.
You notice they didn't show the delivery truck or identify the company. But which of them actually honks, to let you have a fair chance of beating the porch pirates to your camera?
Helpful tip...don't sell everything you own to buy a new camera and just shoot with what you have until the new one arrives? Crazy sh!t I know but maybe this will help many of you!
She's very lucky her package wasn't being delivered in the UK by Hermes, the most useless courier company in existence. The driver would have waited only 3 seconds for the doorbell to be answered, then either: a) Thrown the package over the nearest fence, regardless of the weather or whose fence it was, and then driven off, leaving you (or your neighbour) to discover the sodden package 3 days later. b) Put a card half way through the letterbox, saying "We couldn't deliver your package", with the card containing no phone number or other details about how/where you can collect the package yourself.
I think Hermes must have branched out to Australia. The other day I was walking to the train station in the rain and there on the public footpath next to a locked gate was someone's large package soaking wet left for anyone to steal. What a joke.
Maybe its a commercial for living on the marshes, or maybe its a commercial for having a generous grandmother, or maybe its a commercial for the shipping company, or maybe its a commercial for DPR, or maybe it's commercial for 4K video...
