Adobe says Photoshop for web will be free for everyone...eventually

And if this requires an Adobe creative cloud subscription, then that doesn't sound 'free' to me.

Adobe has bad firm politics, for sure. For instance- i was using the FREE Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, not Acrobat DC, had updated it some weeks, -months ago.

2 Days ago, i wanted to fill a form PDF and just save it via printing dialog (external PDF processor plugin) and guess what ? Adobe came with the info "Start your 7 day trial...." thanks, but no thanks, Adobe ! The fact - that i can't fill out a simple PDF file as basically since Win 3.x really sucks. I instantly uninstalled Acrobat DC Reader. This is a way bad, bold and question-able move from Adobe.

Adobe has offered free accounts since…..forever. You (and lots of others) confuse an Adobe Account with an Adobe Subscription.

An Adobe Account is simply a login and password to access the inner workings of the Adobe website. With the account you can download and install Adobe Creative Cloud App. This is the ‘dashboard that you use to download trial versions or open open purchased versions of Adobe apps like desktop and cloud based Photoshop and Lightroom (and all the rest of the Creative Suite apps). To use most of the creative suite apps, past the trial stage, you’ll need a subscription. The subscription is where you pay.

interestingly, there are a few free apps in the creative suite. Most people don’t know that Adobe Bridge is 100% free and downloadable with just a free Adobe Account. You can set preferences to open your photo editor of choice instead of photoshop and it makes a great heavy duty browser and meta data editor.

It's simply stupid, that i can't use Acrobat Reader to fill out PDF Forms anymore. Nothing is wrong, but pure fact, that this functionality is gone here.

Adobe wants to sell you the Acrobat DC, that's all. And i don't pay no subscription monthy. I don't create an Adobe Account, that doesn't change anything - but Adobe is fishing personal data.

Your comment doesn't make sense after all. It's not about the Adobe account, but a software feature, that was being removed after xx years here.

Try ON1 RAW 2022.5 You will be pleasantly surprised. No subscription.

Adobe has always offered free accounts—but not free software.

If it's free and it comes from a Corporation (Adobe, Google, etc.) then you are the product. Well, your data is the product. Open source is the best way to go, you just have to get used to some interface quirks, sometimes.

Ive no time for “quirks” when I’m editing thousands of images every day.

Maybe take fewer numbers and less 30 fps sequences? ;)

But if it does - why NOT comment about adobe and be happy with Affinity, DxO, and Capture One?

IrfanView was written by one guy. It handles almost all of my image editing needs. The best panorama software, PTGui, was written by one guy. All the best software was written by one guy.

Andyyy - you can download Photopea as well. So you can use it for ever for free.

In case the guy wont update it in the future, than you may not get new features, but you can still use it forever.

They don't need to own users images... they just get data from those images...then feed it to the AI software... an eye here, a lip there, some morphing...voilà, AI magic

I understand reading comprehension can be difficult. I stated full frame camera companies and their APSC lines. If you think full frame camera companies put as much effort and features into their APSC lines, and that they’re genuinely equal in terms of features and lenses, then I’d be wasting my time with the discussion. Do your own research as they say, and if you’re happy with your APSC choices then I’m happy for you.

Good analogy, i completely understand what you mean. I’m hoping Nikon produces some dedicated compact apsc lenses, not just compact full-frame lenses like they just came out with. I have full frame and apsc, but sometimes i just want small/cheap/fun.

Name. Most reviews of the R7 and R10 constantly refer to them as a gateway to the full frame system and getting users hooked to a brand, spending a lot on apsc makes little sense now

northlarch I know that 'Pentax is Doomed'© but their recent K3III APS-C body is definitely not a crippled version of their FF or their MF cameras and actually surpasses them in most respects other than resolution. As well, it is backed with a large catalogue of quality APS-C lenses. Yes, I know they don't count even though they are one of the "...full frame camera companies..." because 'Nobody Buys Pentax'©

NTC, go to your room for a few hours and come back when you can play nice.

APS C is basically what it is. A sensible, lower cost (with smaller, lighter lenses) alternative for those whose needs or interests are less obsessive

Bent... that is true for Sony E, but less true for Fujifilm X, and mostly untrue for M4/3.

Which means... if you want a full featured crop sensor system, stay away from Canon, Nikon or Sony. Because they don't take APS-C seriously. They only see it as a "route to Full Frame."

At one level that is indeed true, but sometimes it's a benefit. Highly CPU intensive processing when correlated with relatively light data transfer (still photography would fit in that model--video probably has too much data transfer involve) can provide the advantage of high performance on very limited devices.
