Huh, just noticed this one. KEH has categories for cameras that include "bargain" for the lowest, but they would need a new category for this one.

Please stop this stuff. Decent articles that have content that is useful is what you should include, nothing else.

This is still coming up at the top in “Other News”, and from the headline gives the impression it is a current auction. Meanwhile, it sold so long ago it doesn’t even appear now.

I know DPR is struggling for content, and I am sympathetic, but come on, this article is OLD. Archive!!

I would buy it and ask they do nothing to it and put it in a frame and call it Art. :-)

My heart is crying seeing those fine cameras/lenses in that terrible condition.

Nope. These are beyond repair. No self-respecting camera technician would touch them. I wouldn't take these for free. Gross.

This camera is totaled, the same as if it were a mercedes in a bad accident. Although, this may be a bigger health hazard.

perhaps they can culture the mold in a petri dish and extract an antibiotic with the efficacy of penicillin ?

Good for parts, but soak in bleach for a year.

Hmmm, I could get them, put them in a air tight glass cube and pride myself that I made it into being a proper photographer, I do own a full medium format Hasselblad system, me!

In an old camera store in a tropical country I found a number of never used Leica cameras still in their original boxes. However, looking through the lenses was like looking through waxed paper. I wrote Leica: can these be fixed? Their answer was an unmitigated NO!!!! They explained that fungus had eaten the coatings and etched the glass. Not only could they not fix the lenses, they would not let the infected equipment anywhere near facilities.

So for those who have replied just clean up the equipment and it will be like new, forget it. You are delusional. You cannot reasonably fix this fungus damaged equipment, and you are risking your good equipment by exposing it to the spores floating off the poxed Hasselblad gear.

Couple of Lysol cans and that'll buff right out.

What I don't know about cameras could fill a library so bear with me.

I've read an article about a Hasselblad that turned up as a bargain. The writer purchased it as he'd dreamed of owning one. He eventually was put in touch with an elderly retired repairman. He had owned his own camera shop and had been licensed by Hasselblad to repair their equipment. I guess he still had all the things needed to bring a nonfunctional camera back to life.

Anyway, he fixed everything and returned a handsome working camera to the author.

What I took from the story is that Hasselblad is almost as esteemed and as an obsession as Leica. Or was I mistaken?

This has made me think. If all of us sold all the camera equipment that we are not using - would it make the prices drop and the camera industry and eBay go down ? I have a closet full. I don't know how it happened. :-)

Wait... I thought Hasselblad broke the mold.

Just GREAT - its a powerful reminder to all of us that everything we create has an end of life date - or as my father put it: "Don't take life to serious - its to short" he was 87 when he said so.
Hope the buyer does not clean this kit but puts it in a glass box as is - to remind him / us what life is all about. Live Now !

Great image. Reminds me of a couple of 'Excellent +++++' lenses I've occasionally got from e-Bay sellers. The insides looked liked they'd been used for mushroom farming. One of the sellers said he'd used it recently and his images were sharp......

That's almost as sad as the local auction I attended years ago for a closed camera shop. The shop next door had a fire and everything in the camera store suffered serious smoke and water damage, including a lot of high end lenses. I did get a bargain, however, on a lot of paper, which was just fine.
