Oppo launches U3 5.9-inch phablet
As expected Chinese manufacturer Oppo has today announced its latest 5.9-inch phablet model, the Oppo U3. The phone is aiming to compete with other large high-end devices, such as the Google Nexus 6 or Apple iPhone 6 Plus, and was rumored to come with a 4x zoom lens. Unfortunately those rumors have turned out to be untrue. The U3 comes with a conventional fixed-focal-length lens coupled with a 1/3.06-inch 13MP Sony IMX214 BSI CMOS sensor. Like previous Oppo models the U3 offers an interpolation mode that is capable of capturing 50MP images.
Shooting modes include a night mode, Ultimate Beauty 3.0 and a 120fps slow-motion video mode in addition to standard 1080p video. The front camera captures 5MP wide-angle images, according to the manufacturer making it suitable for group selfies.
The large 5.9-inch IPS display comes with with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Thankfully it covers almost 75% of the device front, making the overall size more bearable. Nonetheless the U3 comes with a few software features aimed at making one-handed operation easier. In combination with 2GB RAM the 64-bit Mediatek octa-core processor should provide plenty of power and 16GB internal memory can be expanded via a microSD slot. Other notable features include a AK4961 audio chip for Hi-Fi quality audio output and a fast charging mode that can achieve up to 75% charge in 30 minutes.
The Oppo U3 will be available in white or dark blue but unfortunately no details on pricing and availability have been released yet.
