After the device had already been leaked Sony has now officially launched the newest member of its tablet line, the Xperia Z4, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The high-end model comes with Qualcomm's latest and greatest 64-bit system chip, the Snapdragon 810 clocked at 2.0GHz, and features a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1080 pixels in a 6.1mm slim frame.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage at its disposal. For users with higher memory requirements there is a microSD slot that can take cards with a capacity of up to 128GB. Sony claims the large 6000mAh battery provides enough power for 17 hours of video playback. Sony's usual Stamina battery-saver mode is on board as well.

In the camera department an 8MP main unit at the rear is accompanied by a 5MP module with wideangle lens at the front. 3D-surround sound and noise cancellation should create a pleasant sound experience and like all models in Sony's Xperia Z series the tablet is water and dust resistant (IP68) and therefore safe to use in adverse weather conditions. The tablet will come as a Wi-Fi only and LTE version and users can choose from white or black color models. The Xperia Z4 tablet will be available globally from June.
