Most commercially successful art these days is a combination of competent creation and effective promotion, whatever the medium.

There is a lot of perfectly good art sitting around unbought because the artist either doesn't care about or isn't good at promotion.

Lik certainly seems to be a competent photographer, but I suspect he is a better promoter.

I disagree with the Guardian about photography as art. The criticisms they level at this photograph could be made of many paintings, sculptures, films, performances, etc. that easily pass for art.

The fact that we all now have good cameras capable of taking good photographs simply raises the bar for what qualifies as exceptional.
