Looks decent but have they fixed the over-heating issues?

Michiel953: Nothing as predictable as DPR commenters.

You are SO right! There has NEVER been a camera featured here that wasn't immediately trashed by the usual suspects, and there are lots of those folks. This has become a technocrat complainers haven, filled with people who are only here to find fault with whatever camera that comes along.

There are also lots of good folks here rendering honest opinions and questions. Those folks make it nice. The others exist to make everyone else feel bad about their equipment purchase. My suggestion to everyone (new and professional) . . . buy the gear you like and enjoy taking images!

Rhaegar: Hard decision for me. Have both Fuji and Nikon cameras. Had an X100S previously and would like to get another fixed lens compact. But since getting the Z6, the differences in IQ are not easy to ignore. Compare this gallery against the Nikon Z 35mm 1.8s and you’ll see what I mean. That lens gets put down quite a bit in certain quarters but it just blows this out of the water. Wish I knew if Sony was planning on updating the RX1R series.

In response to analogue:
I hear what your saying but actually If you think about it, pretty much most camera comparisons are "apples to oranges" because most comparisons are usually involving two DIFFERENT cameras (different pieces of fruit). Unless you are comparing two exact models of the same camera, you are pretty much always comparing two DIFFERENT cameras.

Comparisons most always involve two DIFFERENT cameras that may be from a similar CATEGORY, but the point remains they are both two DIFFERENT cameras . . . two DIFFERENT fruits. A true Apple-to-Apple comparison requires two Apples! But when you have two DIFFERENT cameras . . . you're no longer comparing similar Apples.

Hi Jeff! I was "Dark Cobra" at your old site and joined in Jan of 2004. I loved the warm atmosphere at your old site. The members were much kinder there to one another. I especially loved the consistency of your S.F. shots and the Stanford Univ. shots. Remember that "Tunnel of Doom" as you called it? LOL! I was really angry when Stanford chased you away from the campus and you and I had a series of heartfelt emails about it all. The nerve of them.

While, I'm glad you eventually landed on your feet here at DPR . . . there's still something warm about the old site that I miss. It's more technical here and I suppose that has it's place, but I just miss what you created. Steve's site also had that same atmosphere. Anyway, you remain my favorite reviewer. Do you still have that iconic "Mickey Mouse" figurine? LOL! It was a classic. Well, all things end. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane and thanks for all you have done for so many of us.

I didn't see very many images in this gallery that are going to help sell this camera.

Ah, tons of spec. details on the Garmin site now. Impressive so far.

Naveed Akhtar: Once again the cons list .. for a GX camera .. that doesn't make much sense (except the shutter shock) and silver award for such a loaded golden Pros list ..

I gave up long ago trying to make any sense of the Gold / Silver award designations. DPR really should drop it (but they won't).

Well, SanDisk has been a very trusted name for many of us. I just hope Western Digital doesn't fix something that isn't broken, as companies sometimes have a tendancy to do that at times.

I'm glad they're continuing to improve the full product line. However, I wish they would make the 4K upper models run cooler. The heat issue is truly a problem right now. This may also be related to the picture freezing issue that so many are experiencing.

Order a new pair of glasses at the same time . . . and hope the glasses come in before the camera does!

Either one of two things happened here . . . something is either wrong with how these images were taken/processed -OR- this camera produces some of the worst images I've seen in a very long time.

I doubt many others would want it but that would do me.

@Paul . . . Neil has every right to post with what he would like to see. Saying that his request is a "nonsense post" is juvenile of YOU! Your own post contributes little to the discussion, other than to slam someone else personally. Others also requested a varriable lens as an option. Should the rest of us only post what is acceptable to YOU?

Now if Panasonic can just make this same camera with a few interchangeable pancake lenses instead of a fixed lens they'll sell a ton of these!

Well, you're correct in that it has everything the Stylus 1 had plus a higher-capacity battery, the addition of a small AF target mode option , an increasingly popular with many people time lapse mode and step zoom.

Since the Stylus 1 sold quite well, why wouldn't the Stylus 1s sell well also? You get some additional features here at the same price, so the better question to ask here is why would anyone still buy the Stylus 1 anymore? Those looking for this kind of feature set will definitely opt for the additional features of the "s" version. So yes . . . it will sell well. Certainly not record breaking numbers . . . but it will sell well.

Sean65: This is ridiculous! Why were the board of directors not communicating to the product designers and the accountants regarding how to please ALL the unappeasable folk who frequent DPR. Man, they could so easily have increased resolution by 4% and added a 305mm telephoto zoom. Not to mention EVERYTHING else.

God; I'd hate to be a camera manufacturer.

LOL! I rarely post anymore for the very reason you're pointing out, but totally agree with you. These forums are made up of two groups. One are people who spend more time actually taking pictures and come here periodically seeking/sharing information about current or new products.

The other group is here mostly to whine and moan on a daily basis about the reviews and ANY product being released no matter what! Listening to them, there is NO product worth buying because they can FIND something wrong with it. Readers should simply ignore them . . . buy a decent camera that YOU like and meets your needs and enjoy taking pictures! Now watch a few of them who are now "wounded" reply in defense LOL!
