Skraaal: I'm sat wondering about all the complaining about the high price of the new phones.

I've just started to get into/learn about the cost of high end watches...they make the more expensive cameras and smart phones look cheap and all they do is tell the time.

:)

Oh definitely, it's why I'd rather invest in a nice watch than a new phone. :)

MightyMike: 4 pillars of excellent photography (no particular order)

1) Good photographic eye, eye for composition, eye for what works well
2) Good equipment
3) Good editing skills
4) Access to a good venue

You can be a great photographer, have good equipment and good editing skills but if you don't have easy access to ideal venues for photos or can't get off your but and find such opportunities you may not have good success at photography.

You can have good equipment, good editing skills and have access to a good venue but if you don't have a good eye for the photo you may not have good success at photography.

You can be a great photographer, have good equipment and have access to a good venue but if your editing skills are lacking you may not have good success as a photographer

You can be a great photographer, good at editing and access to a good venue but if your photographic equipment is second rate (especially is extreme situations) you may not have good success as a photographer.

As you and others in these comments have mentioned, I think that "access" is often the most over looked element here.

The other things can be learned/acquired but often getting access to places is a real hurdle, for multiple different reasons.

thomas2279f: Looks like an excellent still pro camera by Nikon - my two downers are price compared to D5 (is it worth extra £1000 on top) and Nikon not repeating its excellent and very usable LV mirrorless video (Z6) added to their D780 by not improving the video side of things.

Yes I know you may not need or shoot video but as your competitors have added this in well (Canon 1dX MK 3) and you put it in a previous camera (-£4000 D780) seems like a backward step + missed opportunity.

Ah ok! I wasn't aware of that camera store until you mentioned it. Thanks for the heads up! :-)

Not sure if I've missed something but last time I checked on Nikon UK the D6 is only £300 pounds more than the D5.
