Juniour630: I am new in this line of photography, but was thinking of buying a D7500 and I wont have to upgrade in the future. I am realy not into beginner cameras as I dont like buying a camera again for couple of years. I just need some advice on which best camera to buy that will serve purpose for a long period of time without thinking of upgrading for few years. Or should I proceed with D7500? Kindly assist

Only if you can live without a vertical grip (works fine for me). Also it's not for serious video. I wouldn't buy anything else.

Class A: The Pentax K-1 is much more affordable than the first recommendation made by DPReview.

It does the job beautifully and provides some nice extras.

The recent lineup of external flashes from Pentax is second to none, with video light and weather-sealed construction.

Photato: Great pictures but composition is totally negleted with these phones fixed 4:3 aspect ratio. This is very noticeable in several landscape shots. Hoping smartphones start using multi-aspect sensor this year. There is no perfect aspect ratio but there are aspect ratios best suited for the subject, composition and inteded display medium. Year after year I ve been complaing about this issue to not avail. Yes you can crop but at the cost of precious wide angle view and pixels.

@rpm40: I can't wait for the day when we'll have round sensors in our cameras! And, of course, round displays on our cell phones, round monitors and TVs. That would be awesome!...

There's no point in being stupid if you do't show it for everybody to see it.

Shocking! A pic won a photography contest!

LMCasey: I don't understand the rationale for this lens. A fast ultrawide zoom for APS-C. Like other posters have said, why not a prime, and why not even faster so that you can isolate the background. Unless you are very close to your subject, the fast aperture still won't give a satisfying background blur at f2. DOF is still surprisingly deep at large apertures with AOV this wide.

Considering it's focal range, this is not a portrait lens, so if you want bokeh you might look elsewhere. I'd use this one in available light when I don't want to crank up the ISO setting. You can find f/2.2 glass on cell-phones, do you expect blurred background?

white shadow: Finally, Ricoh is moving in the right direction making a full frame camera. Making a high quality full frame 70-200mm f/2.8 lens is a good indication they are serious. Let's hope they won't take too long to make it happen.

Ricoh has a tradition of making very photographer-centric cameras like the Ricoh GR. Let's hope this new entry would give Canikon a run for their money.

@ AlexisH I have to disagree here. Pentax (Ricoh) has increased it's market share since K5ll/K5lls and K30/K50 hit the shelves. They are selling more than they did back in the days of K10/K20. K3 is selling just fine also, and it deserves that. Pentax is a very attractive choice for someone not yet involved in a system

paulski66: Well, on the plus side, at least we won't have to read any more posts from all the Pentax fanboys complaining "Where's the K-3 review?" every time DPReview posts a review of any other camera.

Nikon D4 doesn't need a review, paulski66 !

Danyel39: Hi I own a K-5 ( Silver ) and one month ago I received my K-3 ( Silver ).
I don't know what will be the future of APS-C but I'm unhappy with the results of the Image Quality Compared. Olympus is almost there, for my personal opinion D7100 is performing better and when compared to Sony 7R........
I photograph mainly during the night ( color rendition and low light capabilities are crucial ) and I'm starting to think that maybe time has come to sell everything and check both Nikon ( D4s, DF, D400 ? , ) and Sony 7R.
K-5 was my first camera and loved it but it seems to me the future is going into another directions. Image quality of Sony is unbeatable. low light capabilities of some nikons also. Don't know.
Can someone cast light on my considerations ?

Hi! I'm not very happy with Sony's IQ, let alone low-light performance. I've tested an Alpha65 some time ago and it was nowhere near my K-5 in both respects. I don't know about the new ones, haven't seen them with my own eyes. You can't go wrong with Nikon's D4s, but that's in another league (pricewise too). I think your best bet would be a Nikon D3s if you can get it for a good price.

danijel973: I see no advantage of this method compared to registering your equipment on manufacturer's website for reference in case of theft.

True!

this could prove wrong and have a major impact on their sales as many ppl buy canikons thinking of coutless solutions offered by the used (sh) gear market.

RawDogg: Next time don't shoot it with the Exposure comp. set to -2.33 for a night shot.

I guess one could get the same picture in M mode keeping those aperture/shuttervalues, setting exposure comp to 0 and lowering the ISO to, let's say, 800. And with a lot less noise. Am I wrong?

Andy Dufresne: - Big body for my big hands,
- Variety of prime lenses from wide angle to tele range.
- Min. APS-C size senzor
- long shutter life (100K+)
- Low noise at high iso
- Fast Autofocus
- Internal focus motor in the body
- HD video with full manual controls

Except for the first and last line you've described the Pentax K-5 :)
