I have a nice example of the first version, SSC with the silver breech lock FD flange. The plan is to replace the mount and convert to either M42 or Pentax K. (Yes, I know about the register ...

I thought about that, using some kind of a lever knob for more precise focus. But on the Tamron I find the focus action "too smooth", meaning it's too easy to change focus, almost just by looking ...

My evening / night in South Florida ended up with decent viewing with some clouds. I played around with this and the umbra/penumbra transitions: https://kayakfari.wordpress.com/2022/05/16/the-time- ...

Hopefully not obscured by clouds .. Previous eclipse experiences mostly with an SMC 1000mm reflex and various APS-C and the Q : https://kayakfari.wordpress.com/2022/05/15/the-time-release-dose-a-to ...

The article is still an excellent resource! I have the Tamron 55B (with tripod foot) and find it just as your tests equate with the Nikkor and Canon at a much lower cost and smaller size. Also the ...

Sure! One final thing to suggest the "playdoh" epoxy that's like a putty. hardens like rock once set. could prob pry it off if needed. Hope it works out for you.

I was thinking fixing it at the f/22 end. That way it should function as a manual aperture lens.

Ok you could try using a tiny extraction bit, made just for that purpose - to remove stripped head bolts. Also, you should have a JIS screw driver set to work on lenses. Cutting off or dremmelling ...

Instead of dremmeling and destroying it, you can just remove the little tensioning spring that attaches to that lever. Lens will then function like a fully manually aperture. You just need to ...

Nice images! Will be interesting to see comparisons of the A 20 with the new DFA 21 ,,

Igor, the choice mainly comes down to portability, i.e. size. Optically though the refractor is a better lens, imo. I don't have the 2X-L, not sure about fit. I do know that TC has a protruding ...

The K1000/8 lens is a very large beast, about 15 lbs by itself and will require an equally heavy tripod plus a gimbal or geared head. In use it's actually easy to maneuver on a gimbal, swings ...

The Q pairs well with certain lenses. Here are some examples in this post of an equivalent 5600 / 11200mm reach with the SMC 1000/8 refractor and 2x TC: https://kayakfari.wordpress.com/thematic/win ...
