Thanks for the reply. It seems just switching on and off again performs a mini head clean, or switching on holding power and paper buttons with a sheet of paper in does a nozzle check.

So, I have an Epson Photo R2400 which works well but can go for ages between print runs. Is switching on/off good enough to keep the heads clean? Or do I need to nozzle check or do a colour print? ...

Thank you Mind Thein, you have been inspirational.

It does seem that DriveDX is the best option, thanks.

It's a Samsung Evo 850 250gb on sATA that has SMART, but Samsung's own diagnostics app Magician does seem seem to support Macs. Huh.

Is there a decent free equivalent to DriveDX ? Also, I note that my system SSD drive is "S.M.A.R.T. status not supported" in Disk Utility. It is an SSD I put in place of the original HDD, if that ...

First Aid in Safe Mode did no good, Onyx seems to work only on the system disk, so I've erased the TM volume and re-set TM to the same place. First Aid gives a clean bill of health, though it does ...

Any love for Onyx? Dire warnings, or suggestions? I have downloaded but not run it yet.
-
Ah yes, DW, a bit on the pricey side though. I'll see how I get on with the other suggestions first.
-
Appreciated the reply, quite a bit to get my head around, I imagine these safe modes can see external drives? I'll see how it goes.
-
Hi, it's El Capitan on a 2011 MBP, an external drive has a Time Machine partition, First Aid fails on that one. The other partitions and the drive itself check out OK. Details say things like ...

F4 is a little slow sometimes, but faster than my 18-140 which is f5.6 when zoomed in. I have an 85mm 1.8, but without VR. Another option might be the Sigma 50-150 1.8 OS, rare, pricey, etc.

I spend far too much time checking the U.K. sites such as MPB, prices for D600s are getting reasonable. A noisy shutter could be embarrassing during a theatrical event. And while I have cleaned ...

Thanks, very nice, but it's far from new I would be looking!

As above, I'd like to gain a bit of low-light quality compared with my D7200 with an f2.8 lens. Do D600s still have oil-on-shutter syndrome? I'd be looking to get a used 24-120 f4 to go with it. ...

I often hit Auto just to see what it will suggest, but it always seem to sent Whites way to the right. Usually far to much for my liking. Nice to have the option, I suppose.

I still have my D70, though i haven't used it for a long time. Excellent camera, and the 18-70 kit lens is surprising good. If you have one, try it with the 7500 as a walk around. Enjoy.

Impressive quality indeed, I'd love a D850 but it probably won't happen any time soon. Thanks for posting.

In truth I have spent very little time with W10, I should try harder. But...say I plug in a usb stick, there is no icon pop up on the desktop, I have to go hunting in menus. That seems, shall we ...
