I have not had any problem with sand at the extending portion. I do keep it covered with a flexible mesh, which may help although it is NOT sand or water proof. You can find the mesh here if ...

I often use my R5/100-500 birding on the beach. No problems. Filter on to make cleaning safer/easier if needed because of spray. I only use a rain cover if there's blowing sand and I remembered to ...

They will stop the day before I decide to buy something!

I do mainly birding including a lot in flight. I leave both my lens (100-500 and 400 DO ii) in IS mode 2 pretty much all the time. Less to worry about if you get a sudden fast panning flight shot ...

Touch and drag and VF/LCD switching work just fine on R7. Maybe some setting got changed, you can check and adjust your settings on these menus: Touch and drag Af settings are on Purple AF Menu 4 S ...

Welcome to the forums. The R5 will be an excellent upgrade from your 5D II. All your EF lens will work just fine on the adapter, in fact most people find their EF lens focus faster and more ...

Disable the Mode Guide (Spanner Menu 2) and you won't have to confirm mode changes.

Agreed. Hmm. Not so sure on this though. My 400 DO ii does just fine on the R7, which is where it lives. I call it my poor man's 600. Check out the fine feather detail in the Ibis wings. White ...

Thanks very much for the comment. I don't post many pictures here, but you'll find many of mine taken with both R5 and R7 in the Birds in Flight thread on Photography On The Net.

I think the R7 is a great camera for the money. I like the R7 with my 400 DO ii when I'm mainly doing perched birds, when the light is poor, or when I just want F4. The new thumb dial works fine ...

I use this one (BL-0002 size) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q4RQYC7/?coliid=I40BMXTHTJ6ZI&colid=17C1Q5UP4UQY8&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it It may be a little bigger than your looking for, for pocket ...

Focus preset works fine on my 400/f4 DO ii with both the R5 and R7. It's basically a lens function, so not sure it really needs any support from the camera.
-
Those of you still looking for R7 body only, don't give up hope. I had been checking the big boys and my local camera store daily for weeks, and occasionally the Canon website "where to buy" links. ...

Use the Q button to access quick controls in the EVF, the format is different than the back screen as it designed for dial operation, not touch, but you can change most settings from there without ...

RF 800 on R10 is 1280 FF equivalent. Might be better to compare RF 100-400 on the R10 (160-640 FF equivalent).

You need version 1.09 firmware on the 400 DO ii lens (not the camera) to work correctly on R series cameras. https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/ef-400mm-f/4-do-is-ii-usm Also version iii (not ii) ...

Thanks for posting this. At last a comparison that some of us were hoping to see, but no one had yet managed! Looking pretty good either way, nice to have choices!

Have you tried using a 1.4 extender? It will let your R5 give you the same pixels per bird as switching to an R7 (without the extender).
