The edge is so slight that I only mentioned it so that you don't call me out if I said they're functionally identical. And Canon has a much worse JPEG engine anyway. For some reason I didn't check ...

Check the review here. Not really. No difference up to ISO 1600 and up from there, Canon has a very slight edge if comparing RAW images. This is completely subjective. And here's the deal: No, it ...

They got better at this. When it comes to full frame, the entry level model offered is the A7iii. APS-C languishes with the only new release being FX-30. I'm not losing any sleep over the lack of ...

Regardless of what tqlla says, in practice, Sony does offer older models as entry level for all intents and purposes. This works well because there's a balance of features that new models offer ...

One direction that Sony will go to is cheaper stacked/global shutter sensors to completely do away with a mechanical shutter (which will be replaced with a dust cover). The second direction is ...

Oh, but they already are a threat. Sony displaced Nikon for #2 spot and are pretty much head to head with Canon. Unless something big happens, Sony is going to stay at the top. The inertia is ...

Govt could pick out people on satellite imagery as far back as 30 years ago, perhaps more, so they know exactly what they're talking about when saying it would enable bad actors. I think it's...

@masterblaster99: Maybe not *completely*, but that's exactly what I think. MiniLED is unfortunately not very consistent and I noticed that arrays with high LED counts are more likely to fail than...

Boundaries between neighboring LEDs are fluid, so the same backlight intensity can be reached with, say, (1) LED X×Y at 100% and LED X+1×Y at 0% and by LED X×Y at 0% and (2) LED X+1×Y at 100%, but...

I'm not sure about the A9, since I never owned one. I can only relay my own experience with A7iv. My guess is, since A9 doesn't support LA-EA5 and A7iv does, is that Sony improved camera and lens...

That doesn't seem right. Clockwise and counterclockwise polarizers cancel each other and unlike linear polarizers, they can't be adjusted to prevent this. That would necessitate that one circular ...

Wow, I was hoping I would call you out with this thread :-) Glad to see you're still out there. I can see your site really did push the "unfinished" to its limit. You should probably remove it from ...

I didn't notice anything like that. I think the reason he's having problems is due to the delay with the aperture being set. A7iv doesn't have this issue, not in AF-C mode, at least.

@LJ - Eljot: In case of SSM lenses, and especially SSM II, the A to E adapters work well. I own the 70-200/2.8 G SSM II and it's as fast and consistent as the GM (not sure about GM2, I presume it's...
-
About time, I guess. I think that Sony postponed the E mount version because the A mount 300/2.8 G SSM II with an adapter worked perfectly fine and was indeed as fast as or even faster than the...
-
@Dystopia: Minolta also made a 300/2.8 G SSM. Sony rebadged them and later updated them to version II with higher AF processing speed. I actually think that Sony postponed the E mount version...

What about the angle of acceptance? With one less layer, the filter could accept light coming in from a wider angle? Or am I completely wrong and missing something?

My monitor has a crosshair function that I never use, but it switches color according to the picture displayed behind it (they say it's AI-controlled, I say it's simply hue/brightness/saturation...

I don't think the Bayer filter interacts with polarized light, but the anti-aliasing filter (if present) will.

Satellite communications (including TV) use polarized radio waves to double the available bandwidth. They switched from linear polarized radio waves (horizontal/vertical polarization) to circular ...
