In the same situation I would still personally also prefer the faster lens.

I would see the 45mm F1.8 + something else as a faster alternative for this lense at this price. Drawback would be the need to use leg-zoom and lense swapping and no weather sealing.

This just feels very weird release for me. :) But seems like there are people who could see this lens as a logical addition to their needs.
