On article GoPro's poor holiday sales lead to staff layoff (114 comments in total)

I was on the verge of buying one. I read too many reports of them overheating and shutting down to complete the deal.

I really enjoy the personal reports of folks interacting with cameras I may have not paid a second glance to.
In these reports, there are no right or wrongs, just the honest reactions of humans, machines, and the world around us that we are trying to find the beauty in. Cheers

I really enjoyed the video. Beautiful scenery, interesting people, interactions with the camera, and engaging edits. Cheers.

I rented a Nikon D810 over the weekend and wasn't really happy with how C1Pro was rendering the images. I downloaded DXO 10 and its D810 profile was nearly a perfect match for Nikon's own NXD.

As an experiment, I ran the image through four convertors, C1Pro, DXO10, Nikon Capture NXD and Lightroom. I asked a friend with good, artistic eyes to choose the best renderings based on skin tones and the tonality of the orchestra shell, from various sections of the photo shot in incandescent lighting-rehearsal/work lighting on a stage.

Four out of five times she chose the DXO image. Unfortunately, the Phase one convertor, my favorite for the past couple of years, really didn't work with this scenario or camera. A greenish/yellowish cast that was difficult to remove without inducing too much magenta...and an underlying reddish tone that prevailed. The black never looked really as black as some of the other profiles for the other cameras.

The DXO software definitely has some value now for me.

Hi Nicolaus! Lovely, thanks for sharing such incredible beauty and the fruits of your labor. I was wondering if spending so much time in the wilderness, and the effort it took to produce this, had a transforming effect on you in any way? Thanks to you and DPR.
