Esign: This is exactly what the Canon EOS M system is made for. With three lenses and a messenger bag it's three pounds. And the excellent 11-22 mm gives you almost 17 mm equivalent, indispensable if you can handle it.
I would hate to carry a 3-pound camera bag and swap multiple lenses around during a trip to an amusement park, with or without kids. What I'd want is something that fits in my pocket, offers a wide zoom range in one lens, and takes better photos than my phone. I bought a ZS-100 for a family trip to Paris in 2016 and have barely touched my DSLR since then.
