2Oceans: Would’ve liked to have seen either really right stuff or promedia tripods in this review. That said Gitzo without question can always be counted on to represent the premier brands.

Just wait a bit. PMG and RRS are coming up soon...

BackToNature1: With 8k coming whether you want it or not, more an more folks will need the extra processing powers. So yes, this fits right in with an photography/video website. In fact, now, far more than ever before.

Makes me wonder how well a non-upgradeable 16GB of RAM will work for 8K editing (I think the even the 3080 gpu has as much). And that 1TB storage..?

Impulses: Transparency tends to go a long way with crowdsourced campaigns, I rarely see people picking up the pitchforks when those running the campaign are pretty open and explicit about any roadblocks they come across... My RevoRing order got delayed about as long (I was part of the small % in the last batch) but I wasn't ever guessing what was going on.

All that being said, if it's getting scratched in transit from poor packaging how banged up will it end up in actual use? I'm not trying to pile on Gitzo or anything, I actually thought the original campaign looked like a solid value and a good way to entice people into the brand who may have otherwise not given it a second look, shame it's not paying off for them.

You are correct about transparency and frequent updates with crowdfunding. Gitzo tried a new marketing method to generate buzz and get some new tripods out there, but didn't realize that just fulfilling orders isn't the finish line.

Unlike buying something off of Gitzo.com, Indiegogo comes with the very public "complaint/ support/ updates" sections, which encourage the pitchforks of dissatisfaction. Furthermore, even if they respond directly to one post, they will then be expected to respond to everyone, or risk more public moaning.

I just don't think these realities were discussed in the marketing meeting...

For these longer exposures, it would be nice to know if an ND or CPL filter was used, and what kind/ density, etc. A few of these multi-second exposures don't seem unfiltered...

Great catch! That is hilarious framing...

The full linked article explains why I could rarely get a shot in-focus with my own Zenit-TTL "Olympic" model. Thankfully the Helios-44 lens was easily adapted elsewhere.

MohsinWadee: It’s really surprising how many here have got really stupidly, banally defensive - bringing up that old chestnut and stereotype that if people want simplicity they should stick to smartphones - when not once has the author of this piece mentioned them. Not once has he mentioned a phone.

Sorry, most of the remarks here referencing smartphones are wilfully dumb.

But you also stupidly ignore the fact that both modern cameras and smartphones are actually computers.

What you also stupidly ignore is how ironically easy supposedly professional cameras like the Sony a1 will make an amateur take better shots than on Sony’s cheaper cameras - without much thinking!

Again, your comments are wilfully dumb.

Uh... smartphones are mentioned in the intro blurb on the main page, and twice in the second-to-last paragraph; "And if camera companies want to truly compete for relevancy with smartphones, they need to offer models that are as easy-to-use as a smartphone "

Pretty sure those are phones being referenced...

as far as I'm concerned I've used this excellent paint and it does what it says

22 . 95 a bottle
https://www.culturehustleusa.com/products/black-3-0-the-worlds-blackest-black-acrylic-paint-150ml?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrMGV6pSf8AIVptSzCh2jKQ0tEAQYASABEgL0iPD_BwE

its as matte as you need , without being an exotic " you cant use mine" substance heres a product we can market at any stupid price

great stuff slightly flexile not costly and it works great for shadow boxes etc
and dead black backgrounds

on the web sits bullet points espousing its benefits , 2 stand out

*Smells like fresh coffee

*Not available to Kapoor

I've used Semple's Black 3.0 and when you layer it over another matte black, it is exceptional. Great for still lives and lightbox assemblies.

As for lens adapters, it is still just acrylic paint, so adherence to metal is not great (and no one wants anything flaking into their lensmount). Also, like Vantablack, the surface is delicate if you want to keep the ultramatte-ness. I think this cloth might be a better option if regular old camera flocking doesn't do the trick.

AbrasiveReducer: Looks like it fits a human hand and you can probably pick it up and start using it without reading chapter 3 of the manual to find out what the icon that looks like a dragonfruit means.

Dragonfruit (Pitaya) Icon = spiky-haired redhead detection autofocus.
AI-based autofocus option trained on images of Irish punks from the 1980's. Also focuses on cardinals and the "comedian" Carrot Top.

Love the added perspective (and camera angles) on shooting video with a stills camera from back in the day. Totally surprised you don't use lights or modifiers that often, but then I guess "run and gun" is how you roll.

Now I'm off to look up your videos on audio... uh... you know what I mean.

51 GB is better than the previous 19 GB, but still not better than others, like Insta360, with removable media. Of course, you can transfer data wired or wirelessly anyhow.

IIRC, the "Japanese laws and regulations" might have to do with the wireless frequency the former device used. The original Z1 was marked on the bottom "in Japan, indoor use only except connecting to 5.2GHz high power base station."

I'm pretty sure it uses your GPU (video card), so it may be that your laptop doesn't have enough VRAM?

Wow! Glad you still like it and find it useful (and heads haven't changed much in 7 years). BTW, I'm back and working on some more tripod and head group reviews, so expect more like this in the near future.
