Try dialing it down in Program mode then switch to Manual and see if that works.

Have had much better luck and great service from Adorama over the years.

Tamron actually makes a 1.4x and a 2x specifically for the 150 - 600 as well as a couple other lenses.  A bit spendy for the 1.4 at about $419.  I went from the G1 to the G2 version of the lens. ...
