Royal Majesty: FFFIIINNNAAALLLLLLYYY!!!

Really all I wanted was RAW in the P900. But, megazooms are addictive and once you go superlong, there is no such thing as "long enough." So, I totally welcome this 3,000mm! I have no doubt whatsoever that I'll use every bit of that long end regularly.

I'm surprised to see so many people hating on the P1000 because it's so "big" and "heavy." It weighs 10 grams more than a D5 bare body, and the P1000 has a flash whereas the D5 doesn't. And "big?" It's gotta be around the same size as, or smaller than, a D7200 with an 18-300mm F3.5-6.3G on it, and the P1000 only weighs 190 grams more than that combo.

Also surprised to see so many people hating on the P1000 because they say it's not a practical "travel" camera because of its size and weight. To that I ask "why is it assumed this is a travel camera?"

Continued...

Well said sir! Your logic shows no bounds!
All I can say is.. im avin one of these! I live near the channel in kent and France will be but a short zoom away!

Fastguitars: What exactly is the point of this Nikon?
It can't be IQ, as this is obvious obliterated by the fact that the sensor is useless with a lens this long.
So, is it just to have something to sell to people who have no idea about the relationship between sensor size, light, factored by lens length?
Is it just for a certain type of camera user who wants to be able to say...."mine is longer then yours"?

The DP review says the photos are expected to be "decent".
Does "decent" justify $1000 usd if we get decent photos and a lens that looks like an elephant's trunk?

"hey fella's.....look at my lens.....the photos are not so good, but man o man, is this lens long or what"...

NIKON responds..." Size matters......IQ does not".

Doh?! "what is the point of this camera"
Name me another camera with a 3000 zoom lens for a grand?!
If you were shooting the night sky, going on a safari? this camera is ideal!!
If I wanted to try and impress people I would buy a 800mm Canon usm
Im getting one of these opens up new pictures!

pixelDoc: if i had to lug around such a huge and heavy body, i'd want a bigger sensor to boot. why carry all that bulk and weight on a tiny sensor

If you had a full frame sensor in it you would not get the 3000mm lens!
Its been made as the best comprimise to get the distance, if you want a 3000mm lens it will cost you 25k!
Makes this a bargain from Nikon

nikos theodosiou: I'm only surprised we don't see more of this, "weekend warriors" taking wedding pictures, has been going on for years now. A couple spend £250 or less for their wedding photography and expect to get world class pictures in a hand made album, sorry ain"t gunna happen!!!

No doubt the Weekend Warriors will get on their high horse and say they do a great job after the weekend away "training" (shooting over the shoulder of an ex wedding pro) If you are so good then simply do it full time then! hmm no the day job pays the bills.......

So in a nut shell if you want "professional" photography of any sort then find (if there are any left) a professional who will do the job properly!!! trouble is you might have to pay him or her a decent amount of money!

What??
By definition. if someone is a real professional in their field then of course they are better!!!!! What a crazy thing to say?!
So you think that a professional is just as likely to screw up as a part time wanna be?
GET REAL!

Great news!! Gopro has been overpriced for YEARS!!! their customer service is a joke I know that from experience!
Hopefully we will see the end of this overpriced, overrated, arrogant company but I'm sure they made all their money now anyway so they won't suffer just the poor staff as usual!

Unless thing thing is really really cheap then like Bowlomatic said your better off buying a used fuji gx617. 617 is the correct real panoramic size anyway and the lenses are crucial with this format which is where the Fuji excels! I use mine for work every week and its never let me down, unless its a long exposure and I've messed it up!

Its worth investing in one of these cameras when you scan in the film and see the results its amazing and the equivalent to 300 million pixels!! I have a canvas printed for a client that's 4feet x 1.5 feet in size and its amazing!

kotepum: I wonder what is it about Leica cameras that compels people to take pictures of hobos.

Its because Leica owners are always looking for interesting subjects to compose and focus on, we let everyone else use their af canikons to shoot flower pots and sunsets!

Mr Bolton: This is a really pretty camera and it seems to take great pictures.. but what will this do for me at most of seven grand that a weather sealed, AF and video capable Fuji X Pro 2 for two grand will not?

I mean, besides have a red dot on the logo.

Whenever they review a new Leica the two types of people who respond are
1) people who hate Leica and would never buy one so they just troll.
2) Fuji owners who somehow have to justify that their cameras are just as good as Leica but are so much cheaper and also troll.
Group 1 just don't have any money and hate everything that is expensive.
Group 2 have some money but not enough to venture into Leica but don't get the Leica ownership thing anyway mainly because Leica owners don't take pictures of flower pots and out of focus parts of bugs.
Mr Bolton, The Leica M10 will not do anything for you, please don't buy one.

villagranvicent: I am glad with each new release the M9 keeps losing value and gets closer to my camera bag.

Haha this is funny, so how much are you hoping to buy a Leica M for?
The M9 IS cheap! You will still have to buy a lens for it though and they don't devalue as much as the cameras,
Good luck

Great winning picture but I think the actual exposure info is incorrect:
1/30 sec at f2.8; ISO 231
f2.8?! everything is sharp from the top of the tree to the bottom, plus 1/30th sec for a moving subject, no wind?
Seems hard to believe the info here.

Wild Light: It was an exceptional camera in its day but Leica has fallen behind. It's plagued with reliability issues and 37MP at that price in this day and age is absolutely laughable. The Canon 5DS is sharper with more detail for a fraction of the cost, even with Otus lenses.

Well that's it then conclusive!
One studio eye shoot by one female photographer, that's it I'm going to sell my S and get a Canon!
I very much doubt your story about S lens motor failures and 6 months waiting!?
OK so if you have an S system and you have a problem most of the issues will be dealt with at the store as Leica stores have a workshop included with them. I had some dust show up in my 35mm S lens and it was done within 2 hours.

Your opinion of the Leica S system is based upon you just not liking Leica at all as so many do not, the same as people hate Porsche cars.

My Leica S has never let me down and Leica have been first class in looking after my camera.
37mp is not amazing by todays standards but the size of the sensor will out do any 5DS, if you seriously think a Canon 5DS will produce bigger better sharper pictures than the S then you need to see a shrink!
The old saying "a good big un is better than a good small un"
Leica S lenses are better than Otus!

VERY SAD, it took approximately 3 minutes for the Leica trolls to show up!
You sad people you can't simply appreciate quality for what it is, do you also troll Porsche, Rolex forums as well?
Do something more constructive with your time, maybe even take some nice pictures :>)
As much as you hate it Leica owners are amongst the most knowledgeable and technical in photography, you think its just about money!

jorgemtrevino: I still have --and occasionally shoot- four film Leicas, all but one buyed used at very attractive prices over the span of decades. They became from the first moment my most enjoyable cameras. Come digital and I was dragged into the sin of sloth. Since then I have lusted for a digital M just for the sake of my glass but the company has metamorphosed into a bad joke.

The M's are defective, unreliable and absolutely lack the simplicity nimbleness and grace of their film siblings. The rest are mainly rebranded models like the excellent Panasonics, and you pay a dear premium for the status. I came curious into this article expecting something oriented to real photographers and not Oriental Billionaires or members of the respected dental profession.

$5250 for something that the X100T undoubtedly does better at $1300 MSRP? I believe the marketing execs are into meth!

I'll stick to my Fujis. :/

PS, who really _needs_ 24Mp anyway?

How can you compare Fuji with Leica?!
The X100T is not even close to the Q the lens is like comparing a Porsche to a Skoda!
Fuji sell loads of cameras, they advertise everywhere at every sports racing event, Leica don't they don't need to if you want the best here it is.
I think you need to take more pictures then you would see the difference!

Yeah they have a camera with interchangeable lenses, its called the Leica M series!

Leica's S2 is a great camera I have used done, however as with most things Leica they are about three years behind everyone else!
37.8MP is not that special nowadays with the Phase One IQ backs going up to 80MP and Hasselblad having 60MP.
Probably the best MF camera out there at the moment is the Hasselblad H5D 200MS yes 200MP!
If you compare the files the HD5 takes against the S2 its like Halina compact!
If Leica really want to get pros to use their S2 they need to speed things up hugely! Nice camera but they live in the past!
