Minolta, Konica, Kodak, Polaroid, Pentax, Mamiya... say hi to Olympus.

That's an apples and oranges comparison. Alphabet was formed by a restructuring undertaken by Google. Pentax as a company ceased to exist when Hoya acquired the company. Currently, Alphabet is the parent company of Google. Pentax has no parent company, it is a brand name.

Pentax is alive, yes, but as a brand, not as a company.

This is the end of Olympus-Cameras!
They got our money and ran

They might have gotten your money, but you got their camera(s) and lens(es) so I'd say you're even.

E Dinkla: It would be a very smart move if any copyright infringement is compensated by a donation for a good cause. The price to pay can be several times the normal photographer's image price and still hold in court. Greed is not an issue then and the level of shame is multiplied for the company that is not willing to cooperate.

Since when is it greedy for a photographer to expect compensation for his/her work? Is it greedy of you to expect a paycheck in exchange for offering your labor to an employer?
