Very nice!
Recently saw a doco on the Vulcan's last mission to the Falklands.

So what's the deal with all these new 55 and now 58mm lenes? Is it their FL on croppers? If so why not just release an 85mm for DX?
Also, I don't think it's invoking anything other than Nikon's marketing department.
Canon has f/1.2 primes with AF and they aren't being compared to the f/0.95 Leica.

I was really looking forward to this system.
The A7/A7r bodies seem great but these lenses are a tad disappointing...
Is it another company trying to protect their big bad DSLR systems?

RichRMA: Ad agencies kill me. Their ideas about "20-somethings" are all the same. Bearded, always breaking out the acoustic guitar, impromptu jam sessions, some trendy, formerly intolerable beer on hand...

No T3, I think RichRMA is suggesting that ad agencies go suck tail pipe.

I found the AF on the original X100 to be painfully slow and so never bought one.

I take it things are improved in the AF speed department with this new s model?

I've only ever found MF difficult with a moving subject.
When it comes to scapes I prefer MF.

For other static subjects I could take it or leave it.
manual focusing in those situations isn't difficult just another thing to do.

I don't think I'd ever buy a cropper but I'm beginning to think that my current D700 will be my last big DSLR. I just CBF'd carrying it all day anymore. The body is heavy, the lenses are heavy and the zooms are less than stellar optically.

Not to mention the D700's shutter noise, it has to be the rudest sounding camera ever made.

The Sony RX1/r and or M 240 will be my next camera/s.

Nothing to do with the N1 system but who wants to talk about that abomination? :D

This is good.
Sensors have been fine for years, the glass is another story.
The only trouble now is that something that works as well as it was supposed to to begin with will be priced in gouge land.

Anyway, at least there will be something less flawed optically for those that can/want to pay for it.

Another cheap zoom...
This is needed about as much as the new P&S that got announced along with it.

For DX users, they'd be far better off with some more dedicated DX primes like the 35 1.8G.

If it must be another zoom, how about replacing the 17-55 f/2.8.
I haven't used one before but I can say with absolute confidence that optical improvements wouldn't go astray.
Like all Nikon zooms, distortion and soft edges at the wide end are standard.

Man that's an ugly camera!

I've seen some really good shots taken with 1 system but what a bad idea for a camera, I'd never buy one.

I shoot Nikon and prefer the M system over the 1.
Then again I prefer the Olympus & Leica over both of them. :)

I voted the 5D III and I use a D700 & still it came third.
Apparently the Olympus is pretty good but I'd rather one of the other two if it were my only camera.

With the recent price drop of the M9 and M9-P I had a feeling there might be new M body soon. Turns out there are two.
I'd love to know what the pricing is on these new M bodies, or maybe I wouldn't...
Keen on giving the new M a go before buying a new DSLR that's for sure.

It's like the 5DIII's performance score was deliberately boosted so that it would be the same overall score as the D800. That's one way of limiting the emails I suppose.

That said, they are both great cameras, I just think that the Nikon edged out the Canon this time. When the 5DII came out I think it edged out the D700.

If I had either of these bodies I wouldn't be complaining at all, as long as someone supplied nice glass. :)
