  • Hi Russ. I am an admirer of your landscape work (and a follower on Flickr). It is interesting to see your positive review for this lens for work other than the more typical portraits and events. I ...
  • Replied in 35mm prime
Hi Johan, a 35mm would complement your setup nicely (ref. the second factor 1.5 series as discussed here: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4035194). There are plenty of 35mm options for the ...
  • Mircea, those images are just great. What a nice relief from discussions!
  • That is where we disagree. In most cases one will gain valuable insights to lens characteristics through such controlled tests. I think where we agree is that such tests do not provide the ...
  • Stacey, you know very well there are other photographic challenges other than 2D artwork reproduction that benefit from sharpness across the frame, global/local contrast, accurate colors, etc., etc. ...
  • Thanks. I am aware of this "glass is evil" movement. Back to pinhole I suppose. It was wrong of me respond to this nonsense. We all have better things to do. In any event, Bojan's post was nice and ...
  • Not sure what you mean by "blur more actively". If the subject image size remains the same, then at any given aperture all lenses will give the same depth of field but the magnification of the ...
  • I am happy that you have found the kind of lenses that works best for you. Now comes the bigger challenge: how to continue the personal growth as a photographer!
  • Gotta love stereotypes and anecdotal evidence. There is more to photography than people, portraits, blurry eyelashes and "3D pop" . It's something that the people without engineering degrees or ...
  • I always wanted a modern 135mm f/2 but after waiting for years I finally gave up and purchased a used copy of the 200mm f/2 instead. It is amazing and is now most used lens. It simply fascinates ...
  • Replied in Hogne - thanks
I tend to agree with you. It should be excellently suited for portraits. It is also a much more practical lens to handle than the 200mm. However, both lenses are tools with different ...
  • Replied in Hogne - thanks
I agree but as a policy I usually don't post images of persons on public sites like this. Maybe someone else could contribute? Here are some more images: 200mm f/2 at f/2 105mm f/1.4 at f/1.4 200mm ...
  • Replied in Hogne - thanks
You are welcome. Yes, I think you bring up a very important difference: the speed of autofocus. The 200mm is much faster than the 105mm. For sports/action the 200mm is an obvious choice.
  • Replied in thank you
In my experience you do also get the lemon-shaped bokeh with the 200mm so I think some more investigation here is in order before concluding. Another big tradeoff is focus speed which is ...
  • 105mm f/1.4 at f/1.4 200mm f/2 at f/2 I am happy to have such a patient model! Getting somewhat old but still in great shape. Thanks Babuschka.
  • Created discussion thread 105mm f/1.4 versus 200mm f/2 (for FF)
Some similar discussion threads exists already but I thought this might be of interest for those that consider the 105mm f/1,4 as a lightweight alternative to the 200mm f/2 (for full frame). What ...
  • Thanks a lot for providing these! This is exactly what I have been waiting for. Personally I am mostly interested in the difference between the 105mm and the 200mm. I hope it is OK for you that I ...
  • Marianne, Thanks for this very valuable info. Have you looked at the new  Nikon 105mm at f/2 in comparison with the Zeiss wide open (at f/2)?
  • There is at least one monthly thread on this topic so you could surely find useful information if you search a bit. All owners love this lens (but some hate it for the weight...). The bokeh is very ...
  • Check out this thread: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4035194 28mm f/1.8g would be a perfect fit for your 50mm and 85mm  (based on factor 1.7).
