purelightglow: missing a jogger or something outstanding. you might have wanted the look a longer lens would have, filling the frame with path?

I'd fix this with colour and contrast to more of a film look. slight adjustments to the lighting; reduce highlights and bring whites back to balance, contrast, warm colours boost, reduce blue and adjust all. I often use a topaz app and return any values that have been over done.

I like the people. I wonder if you could have stood in the water for more reflection, and as for higher - I often wonder if carrying a ladder around is needed. It seems centered but the building line is off level

As is a little software enhancement would improve the look. I'm thinking dramatic change to a more shadowy wet look thats contrasty but gently redone. How are you at trying many various combinations and brushwork?

Yes a slight blur likely from vibes in the bridge, with tripod. Haven't got the original out for review, sure it was 25-30 seconds with 4xND at 200iso F11? and highlight priority exposure in camera setting on a 6d + canon 24-70. Its a well lit area in all directions and dark areas were lit by the train

Seumas: I would like to thank dpreview for spending so much attention to the K1
but i just wonder what about the 50mm f2 in the picture about the use of vintage lenses?

the most common 50mm MF is the f1.7 version, another common and appreciated 50mm 's the f1.4 version.. So why did you choose (and maybe use?) the cheapest f.2 version?

So common and a good lens. All the 50's were good

MichaelIsGreat4: Honestly, in 2015, to ask photographers to provide black and white pictures for a challenge is completely stupid and ridiculous.
It is like asking to watch TV in a very old black and white version of it instead of using the color TVs that are now at least at 1080p!!!

The world is in color, not in black and white and therefore, for this reason alone, asking black and white pictures in a challenge is stupid.

I know that many people have this false idea that black and white pictures are artistic but they are not at all; in fact, they are dead, without life pictures, as it is color in our world that makes any object and person alive and then, when we die, then we indeed become black and white!!

I think some expertise is required in the use of B&W. I see misuse often and like the simplification of tones. Check out the colour palettes on many of the better photos and ask yourself is that the best the photographer can do? Is it a lack of abillity to manipulate an image?
Good Luck with your colour

patriotspyke:
It seems you DQ'd more than you should have leaving only the best and qualifying. I'd like to praise your cleanup of entries that showed poorly the quality of the challenge. Mine however was very good with its creative bokeh so should have been allowed (a lensbaby radial blur showing depth and motiion -for readers to know). I think my photo needs a reshoot for other reasons anyhow. If your going to censor photo's its best to put that in the challenge parameters so photographers won't claim to have been wronged and make a fuss.

RuthC: The title of this challenge is 'Beautiful Textures'. I see many interesting examples of textures, per se, but they are not beautiful. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, etc., but some of these entries just aren't beautiful. Just my humble opinion of course.

seems you have a reasonable idea of whats what. I find applying pattern and style rules a little narrow when there's a multitude of possibilities. I think the arts created importance of proportions etc as style and recognized some basics of perception. I'm open to the idea that rules have exceptions
I'm reminded of a friend showing me a collage photo that was horrible and disgusting.. until I realized it was a beautiful picture of potatoes with rich colour and fascinating textures

On the contrary, beauty is measurable and studies have revealed that we all respond positively to certian kinds of things. So very arguable. Beauty is our inherant mental and conditioned evaluation. I'd also say some beauty is enjoyable and some not.
