Skeeterbytes: What price nostalgia? I can't explain why the prime lens Contax T series go for higher prices than the zoom TVS models, since those cost more in the day, but they present an alternative path for anybody wanting a titanium-clad Zeiss-lens film compact.

The T3 was my go-to pocketable camera when I didn't wish to tote an SLR or rangefinder and the lens is so good that it gives up literally nothing in image quality to its larger cousins. But the price they fetch today is mindboggling and I can't explain how it has become such a desirable bit of camera nostalgia. Olympus, Ricoh, Rollei, Nikon, Canon all made quality competitors and I'd be happy to have a clean copy of their better models for a little of that film experience.

If you feel T3 is expensive - try Leica CM compact camera

Andrey K: According to test by Dan Watson in some real life situations Sony overheats faster than Canon.

For long shooting you'll want to have Panasonic with active cooling or cine camera.

As someone who have recorded live performances for hours (and tested equipment for hours before that in the same conditions) I would repeat:
For long shooting you'll want to have Panasonic SH1 with active cooling or cine camera.

Gesture: That's all well and good. Why not use a camcorder or proper cinema camera?

And I'm not sure cine camera would have AF as good.

Funny Valentine: What is worse ?? a camera with a big mount and small sensor (m43), or a camera with a big sensor and a tiny mount ( sony e-mount) ?
M43 died because it reached the limit of its sensor size capabilities. Sony is already reaching the limit of the e-mount because of its tiny size.

I suppose we all shall be going with Fuji G mount then? To avoid small mounts and puny small format sensors? It is often forgot that so-called FF us a small format.

Andrey K: Small and light sports and wildlife system makes sense. But new sensor and reliable subject tracking are essential for survival of such a system.

You shouldn't use subject tracking, high ISO, and you shouldn't expect dynamic range on par with FF sensors. Out of this list subject tracking disadvantage is not inevitable for smaller sensor.

This lens is likely designed to resolve well over 400mp. At some point every modern optic would be diffraction limited. This lens might be already there.

madeinlisboa: Switching to another brand is a stupid, worthless move. Sooner or later, brands keep up with technology from others.
I rather wait than loosing an huge amount of money, selling for a very low price, high quality gear.

Journalists switched from Leica to Nikon half a century ago because they didn't want to wait until Leica would do everything Nikon did with SLR. Guess what? Leica never really caught up.

Kurgo: Now this is how you do a low (relatively) price FF entry camera. Unlike the RP, I can't find anything whatsoever to criticise this camera for. While I do wish it had a top screen I can very well understand why it doesn't and I mean, AF joystick AND and AF-ON button? This thing is more advanced than the D750 I own, for this price to see Nikon not holding back and the only thing sacrificed being video (sorry Jordan, I just don't care), it's simply amazing.

I've been very critical of Nikon for the past couple of years but this camera is simply perfect. Bravo Nikon, well done.

RP is lighter. I think there is a place for entry-level camera with IBIS and for the lightest possible, absolutely bare minimum camera.

Currantos: I think something got lost in translation here. Here it is.
We absolutely and totally and completely are not able to do any R&D on a mirrorless camera. Therefore, please have absolutely no hope of us ever producing it in the near or far future.
They are not really saying they will keep on making DSLR's. What they are saying is that they CAN"T make a mirrorless. They have been making DSLR's for a long time, so why the fanfare of continuing to do what you've already been doing? Useless marketing drivel.
Today I will go to work AGAIN, everybody. Yeah, I'll be breathing the entire day too. Let it be known far and wide.
I think they were hit with massive anxiety about falling completely into obscurity and decided to just say "hi, I am still here, just doing me, no, nothing new, still same old me, nice to see you too" type of marketing campaign but hope it goes viral so they don't have to actually buy advertising time. Seems to have worked, everyone is talking about absolutely nothing.

I would imagine at some point they could join L mount and produce K>L adapter with AF motor, then keep making affordable and rugged WR bodies and lenses. If SLR sales alone won't be enough for survival.

Andrey K: Sensor from 1DXmkIII makes sense in combination with light super telephoto lenses and teleconverters. It should allow to capture decent quality images even with small aperture.

I guess in very bright light when you could use ISO 100 with f/11 IQ would be better than APS-C and MFT. As you'll have to rise ISO - IQ would become similar to smaller sensor when used with brighter lens.
Although RF camera with 32mp APS-C sensor could be interesting as well, sort of 7DmkII replacement.

Better yet Nikon Coolpix with 3000mm zoom.... IQ might be different thought.

paulfulper: Only 20 fps ? Less then the Sony RX10IV at 24fps. No camera can match that?

I know it is very good. I wish I could have the same sensor and processor inside Nikon V2 or Nikon J5 body. I'm not into superzooms, I prefer primes. J5 with 18.5 1.8 is very light, V2 with 32 1.2 still light. If I'm going to take with me over 1 kilo of camera equipment - I would prefer EOS RP with a couple of small primes.

Nikon V1 shot 60fps many years ago. Your Sony is seriously outdated, and was outdated even before release )
