Frank_BR: "Next to the standard 28mm module is a tele-56mm lens with its own 12MP sensor"

Well, 56mm is the focal length of a NORMAL lens, not a tele-lens!
Apple wasn't happy to capture a significant part of the photographic market. Now Apple is subverting the photographic concepts, too.

No different than the claim that a given focal length for 135 (35mm) or FF format gives more reach on a crop sensor camera. You are just cropping the image circle projected by the lens more on a smaller sensor. And you don't get more depth of field by putting that lens on crop sensor, UNLESS you assume that you are going to stand farther from the subject to get the same composition as the person using a FF camera. Then you get more DoF because you are farther from the subject. Sensor size does dot effect the physics of a lens. Apple is using the same marketing psychobabble as every camera manufacturer that sells cameras with sensors small than FF.

For those who use cameras in their phones the 56mm gives more control over their images. All Apple has to do is say you have more reach (diff. between 28mm and 56mm) with the longer focal length and leave it at that. Then you would have truthful statement that still is appealing to the market.

DecisiveMoment: Obviously the images posted in the preview samples need a major Leica firmware upgrade. To post these sample images of such poor quality does a great disservice for this new Leica Monochrom and makes it imposible to make any valid evaluation of what this camera can do. It was a waste of time and effort to post these images. Some are poorly focused and most are boring. :>(

You have point about the quality of the images being important to a review, but comment about boring pictures is off the mark. Camera reviews are about the qualities of the cameras (sensors, ergonomics, ease of menu use, etc.), not about art. A D800 is capable of making a lousy picture (photographer's fault).

Assuming the camera is capable of better quality images, will it make it in the market? How do you tell if an $8000 proof of conept camera (B&W only) fails because there isn't enough demand, or most of the demand is at a lower price point?
