A smaller aperture significantly boosts the constrast with old lenses. You wrote it doesn't change the noise. I'd say your G80 sensor is gathering much less light than actually required. It seems ...
  • Best "small" prime.. well, what focal length do you need?
The Panaleica 15mm 1.7 is outstanding, The Olympus 17mm 1.8 is closer to the 35mm eqiv., but visibly behind in terms of...

OK, then we must elaborate further, diving into the differences between your two cameras. I have first hand experience with old M42 lenses on various APS-C bodies. I noticed that most of these ...

... is that you have either iRes or iDynamic enabled. Turn them all OFF. Also: Which color setting are your shooting? I assume your JPEG is set to "Standard" and ISO is quite low?
  • Simply stunning, thank you for sharing. The last out of focus shot is what i consider art. Best regards Fabian
  • Although a bit heavier, add the Lumix 45-150mm to this list. Loose 10mm on the wide end and gain 50mm on the tele end. A nice trade if you ask me.

  • I had the Lumix 14-140mm and it was clearly not as sharp as the Lumix 12-60mm f/3.5-5-6 . Longer reach, yes, sure. But the missing 2mm on the wide end make a big difference in composition...

  • I totally agree.
If you want to go light, buy a 45-150 f/4-5.6 lens. If you want tele, buy either the Olympus 75-300mm or the Lumix 100-300mm lens.

  • Dear DPREVIEW,

thanks for the guide. I have a few suggestions from my couch:

    1. Please add a "most portable" section. There are tiny lenses, primes as well as collapsable zooms. They really let...

Its quality is very close to the Panaleica 12-60 lens, but the f/3.5-5-6 is much lighter and cheaper and still gives us weather sealing as well as...

  • Had a little improvised shooting today. The task in a "interview without words" series was: "How did your best female friend look at the moment she got her proposal?". I really like her expression: ...
  • You're right, he looks a bit exhausted in your daisies :-) Lavender. Blast from the past using the old Lumix G1 with 14-45 @ 45mm wide open. Dynamic film simulation in camera, Provia film ...
  • Before it flew to you, it stopped by here in Berlin ;-) Proof : Cetonia aurata. (Taken on 19th of May, G70 (G7) / 12-60mm  @60mm / 7.1 / 1/125s / ISO 320, from a 8MP crop)
  • Sure, go ahead. Do you mind post me a link to the thread? Maybe it is useful to provide you a non cropped version of the picture with all the processing steps for a better before / after comparison: ...
  • Hi Tedolph, yes, I was in bright spring light on February the 17th in Berlin, Germany. The sun gave me a good illumination of the subject. This shot is handheld with the Lumix G70 (G7 outside of ...

I also own this tiny zoom. Optically, considering its price, size and weight, it is quite a stunner, even wide open at 150mm it does well. I'm also satisfied with the contrast wide open (see the ...
