About me:

Studied photography as part of my design degree, but have taken it much more seriously since acquiring my first DSLR. I note when I last updated this I'd just got a D200! That was a good camera, but the D300 was a quite considerable step up from there. When all my Nikon gear was wiped out and I made the move to 35mm digital, the 5DII was about the best I could afford at the time. I still have that, but the vast majority of my work is done with a variety of MFT bodies [and good glass - even more important with a smaller sensor]. It does the job and doesn't break my back into the bargain. I am just about as entirely brand agnostic as could be imagined...

  • Yep, Jeff - I reloaded the page and the link worked the second time around. I had a similar issue the other day [Safari, Mac] with some of the G9 links when added to a couple of comparisons [just...

  • Got a 404, but it did work at a second attempt.

I suppose the idea is that this camera is added as 'one to consider' in these categories rather than being entirely omitted. But without any sort of...

  • C'mon the G9 is only compared to the D750 in 'cameras under $2,000'. Because, yep they're both under $2,000. I don't have any problem whatsoever in seeing that Nikon as just about the best bang for...

  • Why does everything have to be so combative? If people are more concerned about the issue than the argument it might be a good starting point to assume the person you are debating with has...

  • While that is not intentionally misleading, in practice it is, people do have a tendency [especially advertisers] to shorthand things and gold will be perceived as an indicator that one camera is...

  • Sorry got to weigh in again Richard. I don't for a second doubt the veracity of your convictions or your honesty and I do follow the logic of your conclusions.

    I think there's still a paradox and...

  • Ugh - really wish I could edit that last paragraph. Horribly tautologous phrasing.

  • @Richard. That’s strange - on my Mac in Safari I got those two errors respectively on the actual lists of cameras at the bottoms of each article (not the drop downs at top and bottom - they...

  • Some of your links aren't working [the list at the bottom of the page in under $2000 goes to the GH5 and the list link in the sports gives a 404 error].

Still think your medal system in regard to...

  • I'm in the position of owning the Oly 17 and the PanaLeica 25 f1.4, so there isn't a really compelling reason for me to acquire this.

It is interesting that in light of more recent offerings from...

  • @Barney
"This is the same scoring and awards system we've had for many, many years. Nothing has changed."

I've been following for a few years and I'd never realised that the gold was reserved...

  • Maybe I've just been unlucky. I wasn't concerned [in fact liked] the form factor because I just kept it more or less permanently in the side of my MacBook which only has a 128Gb internal SSD.

  • BTW, battery life is a concern more especially on the smaller cameras. I think the CIPA rating for the GM5 is only ITR of 220 shots. Those are of course averages and I have shot going on for 500 on...

  • I bought one [a GM5] about a year ago via eBay from a German seller. I think it cost me about £320, new [although obviously old stock].

If you want really small/light/discreet with good IQ [it's...

  • I had a 128 version which ran hot and burned out in under 6 months in the smaller form factor. I've never had the same issue with any of the stick formats. I'd be loathe to try another of the...

  • I can understand a camera being marked down if its features are superseded by a competitors, but when it matches what's on the market at present, gets the same score as it... it just seems slightly...

  • I'm not sure you can have read the article. The imaging area would mean a theoretical 1.9 stops difference [because the GH5s uses an oversize wider aspect ratio] and according to the article, it...

  • You say in the article:
"In general terms, there's no significant advantage to large pixels over small ones: individually they have access to more light (which usually means less noise when viewed...

  • @photomedium
Yes I don't dispute this sort of photography can be used effectively and the technique is an old one, more usually with larger formats. But it is indisputably good for extreme...

  • Perhaps the focus speed [max 3fps] would be just too slow for tracking to be even remotely effective, so that it's disabled altogether rather than allowing activation of something worse than...
