"I've got cleaner high ISO concert shots taken with my old 60D"

@jay jay02; Did you actually read the notes? Some of the high ISO shots have been pushed by 3+ stops in post.

Regardless of that, I doubt the 60D or any of the older gen cameras come close to the D500 at high ISO, at the same exposure values. Its better than last gen FF cameras like the 5D II and is much closer to the current 5D III.

(unknown member): The D500 is showing noticeable improvement over the D7200 results. In high-ISO shooting (3200 and 6400), the D500 is about 30-40% closer to the D750 relative to the D7200 (perhaps a 1/3 to 1/2 stop improvement over the D7200?).

My take away from this is that I'm very happy to see continued IQ improvements. However, based solely on IQ, there's just not enough of an improvement to prompt me to upgrade my D7200.

This makes me a very happy hobbyist knowing I can stave off the upgrade lust for at least another cycle!

@halfwaythere mate, just look at the link again, the D7200 may look cleaner, but fact is D500 holds much more detail compared to the D7200. Look at the writing and the detail on the cards, the detail preserved is at the very least more than half a stop better than the D7200. The detail levels are definitely closer to the D750 and D5 than the D7200. This trend can also be observed at ISO levels of 3200 and below.

I am impressed.

Amnon G: The screen mechanism looks to me like a disaster waiting to happen. small legs in slots that can get dirt, get crooked, etc., a cable ribbon that's pretty exposed.

Why is this better than tried-and-true hinge system or the 180 degree flippable screens?

All in all it's good to see more competition brewing!

^Well there are quite a few with a a tilt screen to the bottom. Sony A99, and Pentax's 645z had one too though its only tilt and not swivel like the Sony. Olympus and Fuji have a few models with a version of the tilt screen attached to the bottom too. I know these aren't the only ones though, I'm sure I may have missed some.

^Yeah, its definitely overkill for my usage. My heart literally skipped a beat when I saw it hanging from his hand.

The screen articulation looks pretty interesting too, if it can stay tight and not loosen up, for the life of the camera.

I think the LCD will hold up well; check this out:

starwolfy: The best part:

1.0x viewfinder magnification.

But the 7D ii has a smaller crop. So I'm guessing the D500's optical viewfinder is indeed the largest available for the Dx form factor as of 2016.

Whaat? It does have a tilty screen tho, doesn't that count? It also shoots RAW! ;)

On article Interview: Canon's Chuck Westfall on the new XC10 (327 comments in total)

This is by far the crappiest piece of equipment for $2500. No amount of marketing effort is going to make it seem reasonable to most people at $2500.

And all that BS about it being a convergence device kinda seems invalid when it can't shoot RAW for still photography. I mean no one mistook the Sony handycams from last decade to be a convergence device, when they could do high resolution jpegs.

--can reach higher fps while shooting much higher res still images, but still can't go over 15fps for 4k video. WTF NIKON?

jnxr: Nikon need 2 tries to get it right for every FF model:
D4 ---> D4s
D600 ---> D610
D800 ---> D810
Moral of the story, don't buy their first model, wait for the fixed version.

"Improved" would be more a appropriate adjective for the D4 I guess, but the D800 & D600 both had issues.

Johnsonj: More people use the iPhone then any other camera, and it's for good reason. It just works. And the colors are more accurate than any DSLR. HCB would have love the iPhone.

Sigh...Good Lord Jesus, how can I put this? Your entire statement is just retarded. Not even a single point is valid, every single sentence. You might as well delete your post, as it simply a load of BS strait from CRAP CAFE.

OP>
@Johnsonj--->> "Iphone is just an imaging device that happens to be a fine, versatile tool for the 21st century. There's a reason the Sun Times canned their staff photogs and gave their reporters iPhones. There's a reason iPhone images are popping up on the front page of the NY Times. There's a reason fine artists are making gallery prints for shows, and there's a reason its the most popular camera in the world. The reason's that it's a simple camera that doesn't get in the way of the shooter. It allows the creative types to be at one with their subject, not incumbered by all of the fancy, technical, and unnecessary distractions of DSLR knobs, buttons, lenses and other bell-and-whistles that amount to nothing in the end. The iPhone is a pure imaging machine."

mpgxsvcd: Those are well taken shots. However, they still look like they came from a phone. Nice try but the iPhone is even better than a good prosumer pocket camera. Let alone a good interchangeable lens camera.

I think he meant to add a not before "even better than..."...... or maybe not, and he just meant that retarded statement.
