Aberaeron's current gear

Fujifilm X20
Nikon Coolpix P500
Nikon Coolpix S32
Great picture quality and looks fab. Don't use it half as much as I should. Spoilt for choice, that's the only reason.
Sold Oct2016 Very poor EVF and low light performance. Nice and light to hold though.
Great in tough conditions and for kids. Poor image quality as soon as light isn't ideal. On average take about 15 shots a year with this.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1 (Lumix DMC-TZ6)
Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II
Olympus OM-D E-M10
Still here after all these years! My wife uses it mostly these days. Edit, April 2020 and it doesn't focus any longer. Pictures all fuzzy.
Couldn't resist this bad boy to replace the A57 Sony in July 2021. This body cost £620 new and sold Sony system for £400. Bargain for a professional quality camera upgrade.
Looks great and is nice to handle. Still makes me think hard when using it, which is sometimes good but sometimes not. Well featured. Sold early 2017
Olympus OM-D E-M10 II
Panasonic Lumix DMC-G6
Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7
Couldn't live without the Mk1 and bought new MkII for very little extra money in mid 2017.
One sold Nov 2016, one kept. Still my favourite to hold and use. Using it less often in 2021.
4K Photo. Yumm! A bit gothic to look at but works very well. No internal stabilisation on this one.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX85 (Lumix DMC-GX80 / Lumix DMC-GX7 Mark II)
Sony a7 III
Sony SLT-A57
Like the G7 but with 5 axis stabilisation. Bought 30th Dec16
Reasonably small. Bought Feb 2019 Sold kit lens and bought Sony 24-240 f3.5-6 + Viltrox 85 f1.8 Edit. The more I use it, the more I appreciate it as I learn.
By today's standards it mainly lacks focus points. Lenses mostly external focus, noisily. Otherwise a great performer. Slightly outclassed by the features on M4/3 cameras but use it for variety. A future classic? Probably not, but it should be. Sold July 2021
Olympus 9mm F8 Fish-Eye Body Cap Lens
Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 45mm F1.8
Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 EZ
Fun in miniature
Sterling portrait performer
Compact, but not my favourite. Fitted with the auto lens cap it is very compact and convenient SOLD early 2019
Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 PRO
Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm F4-5.6 OIS
Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH Power O.I.S
Heavier than any of the cameras I attach it to. Great quality all round.
Much sharper than I thought it would be and much better performer than the Sony 55-300 kit lens. Stiff focus ring is a pain!
My favourite all-rounder and carry-everywhere lens. Have two copies as I like it so much for my M4/3 cameras.
Panasonic Lumix G Vario HD 12-32mm F3.5-5.6 Mega OIS
Sigma 19mm F2.8 DN Art
Sigma 24mm F3.5 DG DN
Compact when not in use and possibly sharper across the frame than the Oly 14-42, and usefully wider angle, but not quite sure about it yet
Sharp looks and OK for a reasonable price. Drawback apart from being only f2.8 is that the aperture is noisy. Wish I had a 1.4
FE mount. Bought June 2021 for its compact size and cute looks. Great for my needs. Use 35 f1.8 for low light and bokeh potential. Find that this lens is used a lot.
Sony DT 35mm F1.8 SAM
Sony DT 50mm F1.8 SAM
Sony FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS
Both DT primes would rate better if they were silent internally focussing Sold July 2021
Really sharp and bright lens. Only drawback is the noisy focussing motor. Sold July 2021
10X zoom for versatility. God it's heavy! A great all in one for the A7 III
Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS
Sony FE 35mm F1.8
Apple iPhone 8
Wish it was an f2.8. Its just a bit dim for even a kit lens, especially at the 70m end. At least it well built and sealed and doesn't extend and is silent. Sold in early June 2019 for the 24/240
Can you get a better f1.8 35mm FE from Sony for the price? Probably not. It does the job and is well used
What can I say, it's a phone camera. Very good in bright light conditions. Not so hot in overcast or dimmer conditions and don't even think of using its digital zoom.
Other gear:
  • Canon Pixma MG7750 Printer From Oct 2016 on..
  • Meike 50mm f1.7 Cheap and cheerful manual lens. Excellent value and great for someone like me who will not use this focal length much
  • Olympus HLD-9 Bought used with used battery 27th July2022. Not attractive but very useful. Makes for a big but even more comfortable camera to hold, both ways.
  • Viltrox 85mm F1.8 STM FE mount

Aberaeron's previous gear

Nikon D5000
Samsung NX1000
Samsung NX 20mm F2.8 Pancake
Never did gel with this one
Cheapest of the range and creaky. Lovely picture quality. Pity they didn’t carry on making cameras.

  • Minolta 7000
