agoerler: I’m wondering how Leica’s Q2 revenue might be…

It has got to be their highest earner, hence the special editions to maintain interest and sales. They will milk this for as long as possible before launching its successor.

If they sell 500 a month worldwide, then their annual gross retail revenue will be 33million of which Leica probably gets 60% which gives them an income of just under 20million to cover their costs.
These are speculative figures of course and I have no idea how many they actually sell every month on average.

lnsmr: Always a good sign to see Leica releasing limited edition cameras. That means Q3 is coming, and Leica is getting rid of old stocks.

You think these are old stock given a quick spray of silver overcoat?

I see same logo on both.

It was just a bit awkwardly written. It’s a change from modern Leica cameras is what they meant. Probably.

arhmatic: The concept of cameras being "special" and "collectibles" is very powerful in today's world, dominated by senseless consumerism. I might not like these particular nuances, but the concept is something to applaud.

I have no idea then why anyone else’s purchase decisions should concern you in the slightest.

That it won’t be used much for taking photos is actually no different to a very significant number of basic mass-market DSLR’s which spend only a tiny amount of time outside their storage cupboards after the initial new-gadget euphoria. Given that to be the case, the main difference with a collectible is the initial purchase price and total numbers sold. Basically it boils down to jealousy from those that don’t collect or trade at that level.

Why not install a Qualcom or better chip to control a dedicated camera? The camera makers could drastically slow down physical development and concentrate on outsmarting smartphone cameras. That’s if they want to survive and consistently better smartphone camera technology.
All dedicated cameras should have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with apps that connect automatically to smartphones every time they are switched on and be able to stream images in realtime to those phones, which are designed for data transmission [among other things]. The dedicated camera has a head start . The big brands, apart from Sony, Panasonic, Olympus and Fujifilm were too slow to adapt to mirrorless, which should be a stepping stone to high performance processors being incorporated together with so-called artificial intelligence software. That is where the future of camera technology lies, and those that will not or cannot embrace it will surely fall by the wayside over the next couple of decades if not sooner.

strawbale: The G90 I bought already has V-Log L and an OLED touchscreen...

According to this the G95 has always had V-log L too: https://camerajabber.com/how-to-shoot-v-log-l-with-the-panasonic-lumix-g90-g95/

On the OLED/LCD touchscreen, see: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/64457901

Someone certainly seems to be out of touch with camera specs or, alternatively, has had a heavy weekend from which they have not fully recovered.

Is it April 1st come early, or late?
According to Gordon Laing, more than three years ago in April 2019, this camera had the Log profile and OLED screen as standard from its introduction.

Here is where the V-Log L profile is mentioned

I can see this article being deleted or at least corrected very soon indeed.

Oleg Shpak: Here is an idea for meaningful special editions:
- Q2-24 24mm special edition,
- Q2-35 35mm special edition,
- Q2-50 50mm special edition :)

I’m not alone it seems…
Perspective-
A compositional feature of focal length is the way it alters perception of depth. Short focal lengths make objects look farther apart whilst longer lengths compress distances and make objects seem much closer together. Therefore, a wide-angle lens makes backgrounds seem far away whilst a telephoto lens brings them much closer to the subject in the fore or middle ground.

NickyB66: Probably worth buy to keep mint and sell it a few years later to make a profit.

I agree that it’s not a safe plan but it may well be a fun gamble with less risk than common gambling. With inflation in many areas, and the value of currency depreciating as exemplified today in the UK [the Pound has dropped like a stone today with inflation well into double figures and rising], then maybe today’s price will almost certainly appear to be a great bargain when looking back from, say, 2025.

Assuming you have cash to pay today and some savings of course. Borrowing money at high interest rates, such as with a credit card, to buy such luxuries is a fool’s errand.

I’ve just asked Alexa to play songs by Seal. Never heard him sing before. I’ve heard worse. Much worse.

SantaFeBill: Question: How many of these 'collector's item' editions will be made before they're not considered special? Seems there will be a saturation point somewhere ... .

500 in this case. Probably too many for something quite obscure to most people, who have probably never heard of ‘Seal’. However, it is a nice set to own for the people who like it, even if they know nothing about the materials, the scarf or the singer.
While this might be a collector’s item for some people, it will be a working camera for others, I’ve no doubt, which will give them great pleasure and pride of ownership.
With inflation taking off in many geographical areas, something like this may appear to be a bargain when looking back in two year’s time and possibly as good as money in the bank.

pkcpga: Still no Leica Q3, just another limited edition Q2.

No doubt when there exists a Q3 there will be limited editions of it. In the meantime if you have a Q2 and/or don’t want one, move on because plenty of people still do and the $200 premium for this particular edition seems like good value.
The last limited edition Leica I bought has doubled in value over twelve months according to the few listings I’ve seen. Not all will do anything like as well but for people who want and can afford this special edition, it should surely retain its $200 premium over the standard one on the used market. Should that even concern the buyer.

Oh yes it does. Longer focal lengths shrink perceived distance between subjects or subjects and backgrounds.

Seriously, the current Q2 covers all of that. The perspective doesn’t change with the crop of course, which might bother some.

MyReality: Looks great to me. Leica and Ricoh (GRIII series) are the only creative camera brands (in terms of style and design) right now.
If I wanted to spend that much money on a camera, I would buy one. If I did, I would have to buy my wife a diamond ring.
Other options that would hold their value better: Diamonds, American 1960's cars, classic motorcycles, a painting from a well-known painter, three bespoke or custom 18K nib fountain pens or a Peter Lik 4'x6' print.
Which would you choose?

The one that gave me the most pleasure, which is probably different to what you would choose or different to the reason you would choose. Vive la difference!

felix from the suburbs: It's really a shame the Beatles are no longer around. It would have been nice to have separate George, Paul, John and Ringo editions. They would have gone well with the 4 piece Beatle souvenir coffee mug set I bought a long time ago.

A ‘Yellow Submarine Edition’. I like the idea.
