Nice shots, and it's fun to bring the 150/2 along on outdoor walks. But for me, the showstopper use for this lens is tight outdoor portraits of people at f/2 or f/2.2 It's ridiculously long for ...

Yep, I've done that too. Or pick a spot with reasonable lighting, and stick with that spot.

Those settings correspond to an EV of 8, or 640 lux, a well-lit stage indeed. Youth and school venues are generally lower, but you will see these levels in college or commercial venues. High ...

I used to run into this in shooting youth sports indoors. Each arena had its own challenges, weird color casts were generally near the top of the list. The worst cases were arenas where some ...

The f/1.4 would be a big help, but you're right that it may be too short for some shots. Completely agree. A fast manual prime with enough reach would do the job just fine. If you already have one, ...

I've been following this thread because I did shoot a number of school venues, both sports and events, in the years while our kids were in school. It's all about the lighting, of course. And one ...

Completely agree. it's a beast, you could pound nails with the thing. I originally got it for indoor photography at our son's school events, including sports. The AF was really fast enough to ...

Having tried a little of this myself, my hat is off to you. These are really well done!

I bought into the original pro "trinity" ... 7-14/2.8, 12-40/2.8, and 40-150/2.8. These were and remain a terrific lineup of lenses. Eventually, I added the 12-100/4, which now gets more use than ...
-
Sounds like a plan. I've accumulated a number of lenses over time. The 12-40/2.8 came with the EM-1, then later added the 40-150/2.8. That's a very nice two-lens setup. It wasn't until much later ...
-
I picked up the 12-100/4 after buying a collection of prime lenses (17/1.8, 25/1.8, 45/1.8, 75/1.8 and later adding the 17/1.2 and 45/1.2, and Laowa 7.5/2). At large f/numbers, say f/8 and ...
-
If it was me, I'd ditch the 12-50 and extra 9-18 since they are essentially duplicates. That leaves the 25/1.8 and 45/1.8. The next issue is which pro lenses you'll be buying. I got the 17/1.2 and ...

It's a fine lens. It's practically glued to my EP-7 as a general purpose compact for carry around on outings. But with bigger, weather-sealed, higher performance OM-1, I'd probably want a higher ...

Thanks for the followup. It's always good hear from the OP about how they used the advice to reach a decision. The 12-100/4 is a workhorse in my kit. You won't be disappointed.
-
For that range of lengths, my choices would be . (1) 12-100/4 This is the all-arounder for carry around, outdoor shooting. (2) 17/1.2 ...

Here you go ... I think is the earlier version of the P20, but it should be the same size. The bottom of the lens is about 1 mm or so above the bottom of the camera. Works fine.
-
I'd really encourage you to rethink the decision against the OM-1. It is more expensive, but it does so many of the things you have highlighted. It is a workhorse paired with the 40-150/2.
-
I would jump on a Pen F update. I have the EP-7 and pleased, but it would be even better with an EVF.
-
Completely agree with that. An OM-3 positioned halfway between an OM-1 and an OM-5 only makes it a more complex product to sell. Rather than OM-3, I'd personally like to see a really great remodel ...
