WMcCann: Find it funny, was only a few years back that the non-Sony community was saying that Mirrorless made no sense, that EVFs were essentially a toy/gimmick yet now Canon have made a high end $6k camera without a mirror!!!

What seems to have got lost is that the advantage of mirrorless was supposed to be smaller size (I even considered moving as it would mean smaller light kit for travelling) but this is no longer the case - the cameras seem to be nearly the same size as the standard SLR - guess the old adage must ring true - size matters!!!

Why do you find it strange ? Autofokus and evf where lacking esp for sportsphotographers so it didnt make much sense . Now they are so advanced so it makes sense. This is 30 procent lighter then the 1dx , and with 400mm primes you dont want to used them with a small camera

IdM photography: Same price as the Fujifilm GFX 100S, that offers 4 times more resolution, 100 MPix... The GFX 100S is really fast, though... Different purposes...

HowaboutRAW: Okay, very nice performance with low ISOs.

What happens if you turn the ISO up to say 6400 and there are deep shadows? How does it compare to say the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 shot under the same conditions at ISO 6400?

Yes, lenses can influence how the sensor renders noise, or better put optically excellent lenses remove something that many people confuse with digital noise (or analog noise). That absence is reasonably easy to perceive provided excellent lenses are used, whereas the same shots with same camera at the same ISO would look noisier with an optically lesser lens.

Never tought About that ...but i guess under the same situation you domt have to shoot at 6400 when you have a f2 lens

tvstaff: If you're a photographer he keeps talking about video vs, stills and I get it because it's only 24MP but is he selling a video camera????

That moving LCD is going to make CPS A LOT OF MONEY

Conclusion: How are people drooling about they have to have the camera??? Have you seen RAW and JEPEG images. The eye AF is a gimmick. It's counter productive for someone who uses their EVF/OVF to setup shots.

If you're a 1DXMKII or III user this low resolution camera is underwhelming from an IQ perspective out of the gate.

Pros are waiting for the R1. With Nikon's Z9 at 45MP, Canon better get the R1 at 80MP and double the resolution of 1DXMKIII

If I wanted a video camera, I'm not buying the R3. I'd buy the Blackmagic Mini Pro 12K and get 80MP stills. How is it Blackmagic can do it and Canon can't?

The Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K takes EF lenses, Canon has painted themselves in the corner. Nikon & Fuji see this too

Its not meant for only video shooters . Its for those that shoot stils or want bort in a camera. No go and shoot stills with thats black magic

Funny Valentine: What about the limitations ? bit depth ? battery charge ? I'm sorry but since the R5 and R6 debacle I'm having trust issues.

R5 and R6 drop to 12bit (e-shutter) or 13bit (mech and EFCS) in continuous burst shooting.

Also the full fps in burst drops when not fully charged.

If the R3 can shoot 30 fps 14-bit RAW files with low battery, then it will deserve all the praises. But there's going to be an R1, so the R3 must have strict limitations to protect future sales for the R1.

Aha first Berny knew alot of clowns with 1dx3, then he changed it that he met clowns with 1dx that Said it was a better camera then one that is not out yet....yeah just like i sad, bearny made it up

Never heard a sportphotographer complain About the resolution in their 20-24mp 1dx d5 or a9 camera. As usual om dpreview the specwarriors that are not in the marker for these cameras are crying loudest

R3 has a flippy screen i do wonder of Canon wants the r1 to be a camera for Harsh environents and as durable as they can make them so they Will have a fixed LCD display on that one

Yeah i never hear anyone complain That their flippydcreen Is broke.. but at the same time maybe the manufacturers know something i dont know

Can we fix a special Thead in Every article About a pro camera where the specwarriors can post With eachother and compare with nonsense reasons witch brand is the best. You know those guys that owns a cheap camera with a kit lens that they shoot their snapshots with, those guys that never tested a 1dx3, a1 etc and Still spends their days waiting for a article about “the other brand” so they can put them down with stupid arguments That makes no sense for irl shooting. Let them have their owm thread they can destroy and let us real photographers discuss without having to see a stupid comparison with other camera brands

Jesus christ you guys are the true definition of specwarriors. Funny thing is that those that complain About the other brands top of the line/profesional cameras are those that never owned a pro camera before. You never see those that own 1dx3, Sony A1, r3 and z9 (when they are released) etc spending their whole days waiting for a article or News About the other brands pro camera so they can start and bash them with nonsense. Its always amateur photographers that mostly takes snapshots with their cameras that acts like this, serious photographers that shot with these cameras knows that they fault these specwarriors find makes no different more or less in real life shooting . They know that all of them are so good

mikegt: Something I don't understand is why Canon continues to put small 3.2 inch screens on it's giant brick cameras such as the R3, when they clearly have the space and battery power available for a much larger display. After all, modern smartphones have much larger screens with excellent resolution and brightness; why can't Canon at least upgrade their latest $6,000+ giant brick camera to a screen that matches where smartphones were many years ago (the Samsung Galaxy Note phone for example shipped in 2011 with a 5.3 inch screen) ?

My Guess is that With a bigger screen the Wheel and Burtons on the back will have to move to the right and make the camera less ergonomical . I rather have excellent ergonomics and a little smaller screeen as long as the screen is high res and good. If i want to see if i nailed focus i can always zoom in

f1point4andbethere: If Sony dropped an A9III instead of the A1, I'm pretty sure the R3 would have been called the R1, and we would all be hearing about how it's an "A9III killer". Instead, Sony moved the goalposts by adding a new tier to the flagship game, Canon reacted by changing the moniker to 3, and instead of an A9 killer, it's "only 24mp" because of course, many people expect Canon to be able to instantly match Sony's 50mp stacked sensor right out the gates.
Just remember; R3 was never designed to compete with the A1. It was designed to compete with the A9 series.

No.....only ones that cares so much about a brand they dont shoot with so they would come up witt these ridiciolous Comspiracy theories are specwarrior fanboys. Those that cameras like the r3 and A1 are marketed to, profesional and serious Photographers dont Care that much about the names. If t24mp are enough they buy it.

I was hopimg it had like the eos R 30 mp, but the difference btw 30 and 24mp is so small so it wont make any difference for me i Will still probably by it and use the R5 when i need more megapixels. Looks like this Will be a awesome tool för sport and wildlife Photographers
