  • Well, I've culled my 5,000 frames from NZ down to 197 scenic shots and 236 bird photos that I've now postprocessed. Obviously, I need to cull further. I'd posted a single frame shot of a rainbow ...
  • Replied in For Rich
For some reason this scene in New Zealand made me think of you Rich. Ok, this is just a teaser ... The fence is much longer than that! And this trail side oddity
  • I tried one of those Droll Yankee feeders and took it back Andrew. I have a $15 metal baffle now that has deterred the squirrels and I'm sure it would deter racoons too.  Capturing 20+ racoons is a ...
  • David: Welcome and I concur with Andrew. My first Olympus, the EM1.1 came with the 12-40 f/2.8.  I love that lens, but rarely use it since buying the 12-100 f/4 when it came out.  The 12-100 is ...
  • Replied in Coldingham
I need to process my photos from 2 weeks in Mexico followed by 2 weeks in NZ (South Island) first - and rest a bit, but then I'm gung ho for a trip to Scotland.  My wife has other plans - new ...
  • Replied in Coldingham
Looks like yet another lovely place in Scotland. While in New Zealand the past two weeks, we ran into several couples visiting from Scotland.  They encouraged us to come to Scotland for a visit.  I ...
  • Replied in Leftovers
Nice shots Rich.  Your Great Egret shots are great. While in New Zealand, I saw ads for tours of the Okarito Lagoon where the rare White Heron nests.  So we took one.  Imagine my chagrin when I ...
  • Replied in Spring Flowers
Nice to see the blooms WN. At home we've had snow 4 times in the last 2 weeks. It will be awhile yet before our crocus bloom. However, I wasn't at home. Last two weeks of Feb I was in Mexico, first ...
  • Lovely shots Dicky.  Thanks for sharing.
  • The 3 eco-lodges we visited were very quiet - there were a few other guests but it certainly felt like we had the place to ourselves. The first two ruins we visited, were also very quiet. It could ...
  • Yep.  This was their first time running it.  Next year will iron out the few glitches. You should go Charlotte!
  • Replied in Here And There
Another great hawk shot Rich. Nice to see all those small salmon - the big red ones I saw in Alaska were working hard to jump up rapids and waterfalls to make little ones.
  • It was pretty far off so not a great shot, plus all white makes it hard to get detail, but I think these are fairly rare.  The shot is good enough for Merlin to recognize it.
  • Thanks Andrew - it was a great trip. I wish I'd spent more effort on photographing the waterfalls and rivers they were the loveliest shades of blue & green. John Gregor (our pro host), Ingrid and I ...
  • Thanks Chris. I'd gotten a distant overexposed shot of Montezuma Oropendola earlier in the week and was thrilled to find a tree with dozens (maybe a 100) nests of them.  This one's a little dark ... ...
  • Replied in Hawk Eye
Thanks Rich. I got a few hawk shots in honor of your work (though not near as good). Well, actually a Laughing Falcon not a hawk Roadside Hawk lunching on a small bird Gray Hawk Another Roadside Hawk
  • Replied in Mayan Ruins
I did the climb at Bonampak but when we went to Yaxchilan, Tomy (the other guide) and I spent the first hour birding, so with only an hour left, and knowing my wife wasn't going to tackle it, I ...
  • Thanks Dicky.  I saw kingfishers several times and three kinds all new to me.  The Ringed Kingfisher I posted was one of a nice series I got. I also got a Green-belted Kingfisher hovering over the ...
  • Thanks Dave.  Looks like it will be cool and gray with some showers the whole time, but I'm sure we'll have fun and hopefully get some good photos.
  • Replied in Mayan Ruins
Thanks Roy. I thought of the pictures you post often on this trip - the scenery is very similar. Bonampak was the first and in many ways most well preserved of the ruins we visited. We had it ...
