I have had a Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 in my kit since the late 1980s. It was idle for the first part of the DSLR age but quickly regained its place as a favorite lens. In my transition to mirrorless, I still love using it. Further, it opened my eyes to adapting some old rangefinder lenses on the Z. Of the ones I’ve tried, the W-Nikkor 35mm f/2.5 is particularly noteworthy.

A very nice break from the tech-focused articles that are so common. It speaks to the organic experience of making photographs and the joy of the craft. I've tried both film and digital Leica M cameras over the years and understand the romance of them, but keep going back to Nikon. Perhaps I have just enough experience to offer this woodworking analogy (which might withstand attacks a bit better than the vinyl vs. digital recording):

Leica is a fine hand planer with a well honed blade.
Canikon is a motorized tool meant for the same job that is well designed, manufactured, but louder and less elegant.

The former, in the best and most practiced hands, can create beautiful results when patience and skill coincide. The latter, when employed by a capable (but not necessarily expert) user yields consistently good results.
