SphericalAberration's recent activity

  • Stage lighting can be really bright and extremely contrasty ; stage smoke often illuminated with banks of LEDs with line sequential update PWM mixing. Low ISOs tend to have more dynamic range ; ...
  • Both the PL 25/1.4 and Olympus 25/1.2 are T1.8 lenses - so let the same light through.
  • The Leica M-A is a better choice for mechanical heirloom
  • And rip-off artists ; difficult to walk ten feet along the Nathan Road in Hong Kong without another street hawker offering to make a copy.
  • Sell Get the M10 and a nice Flieger from Stowa or Laco
  • I chose the M-A  instead of the MP ( as a upgrade to a M6 ) : Shorter shutter release stroke ( as no meter activation stage ) Matt black ( I disliked the chrome ring surround the release on the ...
  • With $12,000+ worth of gear there,  I would hope you already know what want to accomplish and what additional lenses would help with that. If not : a fast 35mm is incredibly useful
  • A coaxial ring would allow reuse of the existing lens mechanism with only minor changes. e.g. https://www.dpreview.com/products/panasonic/compacts/panasonic_dmclx10
  • Nothing says nostalgic like a 0-series Null Replica Using it always feels like a special occasion ; the lens is fantastic.
  • Adding a thin dial surrounding the lens with preset focus click stops would be a great step forwards: e.g. AF ; Infinity ; 5m ; 3m ; 2m ; 1.5m ; 1m Essentially moving the snap focus distance ...
  • Grand Ricoh  ? - like Grand Seiko After the lesser R1 film compact came the higher spec GR1
  • I was highlighting an instance where customer feedback achieved design influence.
  • I also doubt dpreview carries much weight, but would like to think that Japanese Ricoh GR users are still influential ( though the freezing of GRblog was not a good sign ) . As an industry parallel ...
  • You are a week too early ;-)
  • Ricoh are not doing enough to maintain the price the GR-II is down to $580; that's a lot less than the likes of the X100F. It may be Ricoh's flagship camera, but at some point the accountants will ...
  • I owned the 28/2 for many years but found, especially with film, the speed was lacking indoors and it could not replace the 35/1.4 - the 28/1.4 now does that. My favored combination is now to have ...
  • Replied in Summilux?
You would think it would be easier to design a distortion free compact 40mm view lens ;-) The Zeiss Contax Tix 28/2.8 lens would be great on the GR ( as a compliment to the 18.3/2.8 )
  • The Q series and the 8.5mm certainly fills a gap by providing a good compact with a 40mm view - its' the only small sensor camera I still use. But it seems the party is over for small sensor compacts.
  • Up close you can see the vodka bottle in the guy's hands. http://www.up.com/aboutup/community/safety/photo_safety/index.htm There comes a point when risk is not so subtle: https://youtu.be/fZ1owXJZ ...
  • Yes, but IQ is gone if you start cropping from 28 if you see with a 'normally view' and expect to crop to 50, 75 or 90 .
