Terrible pseudo-photos... Maybe one of the worst jpeg processing out there.

If it is intended for vloggers and such, it should have new 12MP 1" sensor for better low-light and lower noise.
Also 16-35mm focal range instead of the old 24-70...
Stupid camera, just buy RX100 IV or V for half the price. :)

Basic phones from 10 years ago would produce much better photos...
This Sony is a joke which real price should be $399.

otto k: Sensors aside, it's amazing how compact camera modules in smartphones have become. High end ones have 1/1.3" sensors yet are acceptably thin, especially when compared to Nokia 808 or Panasonic CM1 (that do have larger sensors, but not by much). And that's without realizing how much faster the lens are nowadays (f/2.4 or 2.8 was all the rage back then) and they incorporate OIS too.

Electronic components progress, that's a given, but advances in lenses are nothing short of amazing for me.

These lenses are terrible, sharp only in the pinpoint centre. Maybe a 2MP worth of a resolution.

mxx: Must say that the spread of focal lengths is nice.

I still don't understand the very wide and probably soft lens of the 24mm main camera. I really want a good 28mm equivalent glass, then the 16mm ultra-wide and 70mm tele make much more sense!

panther fan: 1/1.28

I like the new sensor size war. In just two years we went from 1/2.55" to 1/1.72" to 1/1.52" to 1/1.33" and now 1/1.28" and there are at least rumors that Samsung is going full 1" chip next

I really wish the next war to be lens quality. These new sensors are very potent but are highly limited due to crappy lenses... Check reviews.

Mark B UK: I'd be grateful if the authors of this piece would clarify whether RAW shooting is available, and if so whether it is limited to the main (24mm equivalent) lens or is available with all three. Also I'd appreciate the same information for the Samsung S20 models, and indeed for all write-ups about the camera capabilities of smartphones. Computational photography is interesting, but for many of us it's the RAW output that matters - and there are many smartphones that limit it to the main lens and just one shooting mode (non-computational). As a digital photography website, DPR should bring us all the info on this.

I totally agree with you!
Regarding S20, I think it's like the older models, only the main will get RAW capability.
Huawei opens all cameras to be used in RAW.

Mark B UK: There's one question in my mind that I hope the DPR team can answer: do all three S20 models shoot RAW with all lenses and modes (and if not, what are the exclusions)?

I really want to know this as well!

It looks like a 360p from 2012.

So much smearing and crappy image quality, regular smartphone outputs the same jpegs.
Noise reduction is dialled in like in a phone - all the way up!

(unknown member): NightSight can be used and probably should be used for almost all images shot with a pixel.

I usually set exposure for +2EV (with the slider) as I've found there is ample highlight headroom.

I then grab that raw file and decrease exposure by about -2EV crushing any noise and I'm left with the very cleanest camera phone image of any phone including the i11 in any mode or scene.

I'm still using a Pixel 2XL.

NightSight nails white balance better than the standard capture protocol and significantly more dynamic range too. In good light, NightSight doesn't require the long exposure so it's a breeze to use.

Once you're aware of the increased highlight headroom and if you're willing to process, you'll find NightSight to out perform the i11 for almost any type of capture.

The Pixel 4 should be amazing.

Can you upload some test shots somewhere?

Samsung Galaxy S11 will have 64MP 1/1.7" sensor, so no thanks.

Aegon Targaryen: Nice shot. Did you shoot this one in RAW? I'd love to see the RAW file. Phone JPEG is always, ALWAYS, lacking. But the RAWs actually can impress often.

Bummer this is 1 of only 2 shots in the whole gallery using the megawide camera. That's the best photographic thing about the S10 and S10+!

From what I know, only Huawei allows shooting RAW with all sensors. And only Mate 20 PRO / P30 Pro, even P20 pro is not allowed.

Only the MAIN wide sensor can shoot RAW, it's a bummer they don't let us shoot RAW with the Ultra Wide and Telephoto cameras...

poppyjk: Weird pattern again at 100% on the blue 'Alcatel' material. Is it the paint or fabric causing this? Shows up as banding in 'fit to screen' view.

It's the same LED display showing different AD. ;)

poppyjk: Another strange pattern in the blue/purple stripe on the left of the frame. Lens looks great so is this a sensor issue?

Another display :)
