Leica Isn't the best camera in the world? Say it isn't so!

alexzn: This company truly deserves its location in the Palo Alto's "row of ridiculously overfunded startups" on University Avenue. This is a seriously dumb idea. If I am out with a beginner camera, I want to see my picture, soup it up right there and then and share it to my social feed. All of which I can do on my smartphone that is getting better than this Canon Rebel in a fancy orange leather case. At least they had the guts to put in a prime lens, which is something every photographer appreciates. That is everyone except the beginners who want zooms. Oops...

It's a Sony A3000 not a Canon Rebel

jpd555: Filter threads: someone asked about filters a couple of days ago, but I haven't seen an answer. From pictures, it doesn't look like the camera has filter threads, but not sure. Does anybody know?

External power: does anybody know if you can run the camera off external power through USB, or is USB only for charging?

I like the camera size, and am glad Canon made some sacrifices (maybe we're making the sacrifices) to keep the camera thinner. Also happy about the weatherproofing and the fact the camera should be tough. Reading all the many reviews here, it seems most don't think the video will be up to par with say a Sony RX100V. I'll have to wait and see how the reviews go - I do tend to shoot more videos now than in the past and was hoping for 4K.

Thanks for all the previous comments, even if many are not too complimentary :)

There is a optional screw on lens hood available which lets you use 49mm filters, I've been trying to find out the thread size on the lens that is used to attach the lens hood.

nicoboston: Whatever the specifications, I will never give $1300 for a compact camera.
The tiny SL2 body costs $500 and is incredibly more versatile.
This new G1X is certainly a decent camera, but why spending $1300 for a (not so) compact camera with fixed and slow 3x lens?

It is a lot smaller than the 200D/SL2: http://camerasize.com/compact/#723,715.640,ha,f

"Delivery is planned for April 2018"

It will go on Sale on April 1st because it's a Joke of a camera and anyone who buys one must be a fool!

daddyo: Raid is excellent! I use it to kill all manner of roaches and unwanted pest bugs. Their wasp and hornet spray works well too.
I don't understand all the debate here, if you don't like Raid try Black Flag.

Here we go again the whole Raid vs Black Flag debate...

I prefer Mortein, I know it's a Odorless spray and traditionalists say odor makes you feel more connected to the spray.

Glad that clears that up! Now time to move on to the whole 'Nike on' 'Nik on' 'Neek on' pronunciation...

Bokeh? Bookah? Bokkay? it's all just a blur and the debate about it's pronunciation has become one big circle of confusion!

pshummer: I was guessing that the price of Sigma 135 f1.8 would be less than $1500 and It came out to be quite close. Brand new Nikon 135 DC f2 costs $1391 @ B&H so I would say that they priced it right. I own a Tamron 85 f1.8 VC and it's bigger and heavier than Nikon 85 f1.8 but it doesn't bother me. I rented Nikon 105 f1.4E for my photo shoot and I carried it all day and it didn't bother me. I used my Tamron 15-30 f2.8 VC all day for my vacation trip and its weight and size didn't bother me. Rather, I enjoyed taking great shots with these lenses and to me, that's what it counts. I have Nikon 135 DC f2 and just like Sigma 135 f1.8, it's a specialty lens and it's not for everybody. For those who appreciate what it can do, I think the Sigma will shine.

Yes, but the Canon 135 f2.0 was released 21 years ago so Canon have already recouped their development costs years ago...

LarryK: Hey, thanks Panasonic for obsoleting three of my lenses.

Fortunately, I had already moved on to Olympus's superior counterparts, glad I did.

Didn't realize Panasonic released a firmware update that suddenly made your lenses stop working immediately after the new lenses were announced...

Quick Canon! Halt the production of the EF-S 24mm immediately!! David Hurt doesn't want one which means nobody else in the entire world would possibly want one either!

Canon DO lenses have a green ring, the build quality is the same as the L series lenses.

Being part of the green ring club is more exclusive than the red ring club!

24-105/4L is available for $600 off kits all the time on ebay.

Just wait until the 'white box' version floods the market

In reply to:

Anastigmat: Does the market still exist for a high end APS-C model costing almost 2000 dollars in 2014?

Not everyone wants a full frame camera with the big and expensive lenses!

APS-C cameras also have wider AF point coverage vs the clustered AF points in the middle of the frame on the full frame cameras, and the crop factor is beneficial to those who shoot sports, wildlife, aviation etc.
