EDWARD ARTISTE: Hey DP guys, um..is something wrong here?

The softness exhibited by certain parts of the scene dont look right. Even (bottom) edges of the frame is sharper, and the 5d4 and 5d3 look almost exactly the same there.

What would be causing that softness mid frame, where lenses are normally sharper?

The other cameras (nikon & sony) images dont really look better, they just show more details from the resolution advantages.

Lastly, if the ef 85 1.8 was used for this test, then that would be a grand old's waste of time, would'nt it?

At worst, the 5d4 image is no better, but that is really tough to discern here due to the studio scene itself.

All this did was leave me scratching my head. :P

Not sure why everyone is complaining about the 85 1.8! Just as sharp when stopped down as the mighty 1.2.

Kabe Luna: Interestingly, the 5D Mark IV doesn't deliver much boost in resolving power compared to the 5D Mark III.

This was my take away as well! Barely any difference with newer tech and 1/3 increase in resolution! Doesn't seem right.

Garug: The face tracing seems to work excellent. Now it they would provide the X, Y coordinates of the tracked face on screen, a gimbal could be locked to the face select to be tracked... If they would provide the interface...

If you're a pro shooting video you will more than likely have an external monitor/recorder. This still could be problematic if using the external to record as you have to remove the HDMI overlay and won't see the focus points at all.

Jylppy: Canon 5DII has served me well, but it seems it's time for update. Really fantastic announcement from Canon. I'm also curious how the new 24-105/4L IS II will do.

REnt it first. The ergonomics are terrible. Battery life abysmal. Eye tracking only works with sony lenses and focus is not reliable with ANY adapter. Sure the image is a little better and can be pushed more in post but you have to acquire that image first and canon has a leg up on that even without factoring in the metabones adapter.

JackM: Awesome all-around camera, but the Dual Pixel Raw thing seems like no big deal for my uses. Was hoping it could be used for enhanced DR, but I guess not (yet?). I think I'll upgrade my 5D3 to a 5DSR.

Think it will still have better DR than the 5d3 and 5DSR. Duall pixel RAw will be amazing for those of us like myself who shoot mostly wide open.

JackM: Awesome all-around camera, but DPRAW seems like NBD to me. I was hoping for dual ISO for enhanced DR. I guess if I can't have that I'll take 50mp please. Off to the 5DSR then!

I think DR might still be better than 5DSR but we'll see. Adjusting micro focus in post will be a lovely addition since I shoot mostly wide open.

FuhTeng: Maybe it's blasphemous since I shoot Sony mirrorless and Nikon, but I'm excited. The dual-pixel AF might finally push Nikon to have something competent for video AF, and continued improvements to the sales-king will force Sony to continue to innovate to try to catch up.

Between this, the K-1, the D810 and D750 (both of which should be getting replacements soon), and the Sony A7 family (Sony seems overdue for a replacement at their previous release rate...), we have a really fantastic group of FF cameras to choose from. I like competition.

I don't see Nikon taking the video plunge. They have no upgrade path beyond their DSLR whereas canon and sony both have a cinema line.

LDunn1: no fold out / articulated LCD :-( .....disappointing.

This is now a very hard decision (for me) between upgrading my 5d2 to the 5d4, or to the Sony A7Rii & a metabones adapter.

I would highly advise against anything with an adapter. You loose out on any decent autofocus. It's possible but not nearly as fluid. You loose features such as eye detect focus and others. Depending on the lens, the camera will also hunt around quite a bit trying to acquire focus.
