pentaust: Did the cyber attack come from Sony who can't stand that Canon tech is now more advanced than Sony cameras tech?

No, just no.

owenleve: This is stupid and ads more question about fair/non-biased news reporting.

The camera brand they use has absolutely nothing to do with their news reporting. Try again.

pentaust: Know your why. Somehow, somebody has to buy the excess inventory of unsold Sony cameras at a discounted price. It's a B2B deal. OR is it just for a promotional article published by internet camera review sites?

This comment as so much salt but so little substance at the same time.

Nebell: It's now on Sony and Nikon to prove themselves.
I'm sticking to Sony because its Alpha cameras are the perfect size for me.
R5 has amazing specs, but A7R IV is still a monster of camera with higher resolution and 8k is arguably a gimmick. How many of us have 8k screens?
CF Express cards are insanely expensive. R5 is for 2022, not today.

Lol look at all you people that are so trigger by my comment. I'm merely repeating the same sentiment from the Canon camp during the first few years of 4k.

Funny how the Canon camp is now very much onboard with pushing video specs now that they are ahead.

I believe the term is hypocrisy.

8K is 100% a gimmick at this stage and just there to satisfy a spec sheet. Take a look at the recording restrictions.

Funny how Canon fanboys were calling Sonys a spec sheet camera.

racin06: More commitment to Kaizen from Fujifilm. Nobody does it like Fujifilm.

Plenty of manufacturers offer bug fixes. If you take off your Fuji hat, you'll realise that it's nothing particularly special.

Horshack: I'm surprised by the new option to close the shutter curtains at power off. Sony felt so strongly about keeping the curtains open that their MILCs actually force them open if you pull the battery while the camera is powered on - that suggests a special power-loss circuit/firmware was implemented to achieve this. I believe this was done because the curtains are more vulnerable to damage from user mishandling than the sensor cover glass, esp for blunt force like a finger touch.

I don't know how other people change lenses, but my fingers are no where near the sensor/shutter and have practically 0% change of touching it even if I am blindfolded.

I would honestly love the meet someone who thinks this is a serious concern.

Thoughts R Us: BTW, Bill Claff just posted on his website the DR measurements for the new 1DXIII. It does indeed show about a one stop improvement at base ISO vs the 1DXII.

As someone noted, that bodes very well for the R5.

Canon sensor tech has gotten a lot better. And their Digic X processor is also a big leap forward. So the ingredients are there for Canon. And if someone wants to know how Canon can make such big gains in performance, that's how. They've been developing new sensor and processor tech; we just are now seeing it materialize.

It's like when Apple came out with the iPhone. It was an amazing revelation, but they had been working on it for years. It's just that the public unveiling was that moment when we saw the fruits of all that labor materialize very quickly right before our eyes.

It's nothing like an iPhone moment.

Niko Todd: Canon's dialect is idiomatic - it can't be read literally. So I ran the announced specs through the DeCripple 1.0 app.

- 8k video - with 8k asterisks - probably a 2x 4k at 20mb/s., or some shenanigans like that. Search Google for RED to see how a real 8K camera looks like and then take an Aspirin.
- "Newly designed CMOS sensor" - yeah, right...
- 20fps - that's possible, but... with locked AE/AF on the first frame and 12-15 frames per burst; or only in HEIF/JPEG; or you may also need a battery grip. So, my guess is it's going to be 5fps - a significant upgrade from the EOS R's 3 fps. Which brings me to the AF cases: #1 Turtles, #2 Erratically moving snails, #3 Sloth Mode #4 Sick rabbits.
- 100-500 4.5-7.1 - sharp in the center at f/11 and in the corners at f/16. Perfect for fireflies. And, with the TC attached, you no longer need an ND filter for long exposures.
A real Sony killer!

It's amazing how much people are still drinking the Canon's Kool-Aid.

I've just summed up Niko's comment for everyone - "I'm a moron".

All the features listed are entirely possible (ok, the 8k video raises eyebrows but I'm happy to be proven wrong). Why don't you convert your fan boy energy into something useful to society?

Laslen: I see a lot of people talking about Sony trolls, but I haven't actually seen a comment by one yet. In fact, checking profiles of some negative comments, I see Canon gear listed.

You're completely right, it's just the Canon trolls making stories up to justify their existence. Quite sad really.

Benjamin Kanarek: Another reason I love Fujifilm...their Kaizen approach to their products! ;-)

Exactly. Fuji used the term "kaizen" as a marketing catch phrase and the masses just ran with it, without critically thinking and understanding it. Those that do realise that it's just your regular firmware updates.

All mainstream camera manufactures have been doing this.... maybe you'll realise if you open your mind and eyes

Mister Anders0n: But MILCs don't need AF fine tuning?!!! LOL. What are the actual advantages of ML again, 'cuz I'm just not seeing it. The only advantage is for the camera makers, who have suckered people into selling all their old glass, and replacing it with new glass that does the exact same thing.

You're not understanding the difference between Canon MILCs and other MILCs.

So it wasn't a national security threat after all. It never was, otherwise it would've been non negotiable.

And to think there were actually people who believe what Trump says.......
